This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Texas-based distributors Well Go USA have acquired all North American distribution rights to director Erik Matti's On the Job (2013), starring Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson, and Joel Torre. The Filipino crime thriller will be screened in the Director's Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Relativity Media has released the first trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut Don Jon (2013), starring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Shochiku Co. to Restore Three More Ozu Films

Japanese film studio Shochiku Co. has announced that it will restore three more films directed by the legendary Yasujiro Ozu: Equinox Flower (1958), Good Morning (1959), and Late Autumn (1960). A newly restored An Autumn Afternoon (1962), Yasujiro Ozu's final film, was screened earlier today in the Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Psycho II and III Heading to Blu-ray

Scream Factory, the horror-thriller offshoot of independent film distributor Shout Factory, has revealed that it is planning to bring to Blu-ray Richard Franklin's Psycho II (1983), starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, and Meg Tilly, and Anthony Perkins' Psycho III (1986), starring Anthony Perkins, Diana Scarwid, and Jeff Fahey. These upcoming releases have not yet been dated, but they are expected to arrive on the market later this year.

Acclaimed French director Olivier Assayas will direct Hubris, his first U.S. film. Based on an article by Hillel Levin published in Playboy, Hubris will tell the story of a group of thieves who confront legendary Chicago crime boss Tony Accardo. Assayas and his team will begin shooting Hubris in 2014.

Star Wars Rebels Animated Series

Disney has revealed the next entry in the Star Wars saga: Star Wars Rebels, a new animated television series that bridges the gap between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. The series is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on the Disney Channel, followed by a weekly series on Disney XD channels around the world.
