This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Dead Poets Society 4K Blu-ray

20th Century Studios is preparing a combo pack release of Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society (1989), starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Gale Hansen. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 29.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of Spartacus: War of the Damned, the third and final season of the hit Starz Original series from executive producers Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, Josh Donen and Steven S. DeKnight. The 3-disc set arrives on Blu-ray on September 3rd.

Home Entertainment has released an official trailer for the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, which features the voice talents of Justin Chambers, Kevin McKidd, Nathan Fillion, Ron Perlman, Dana Delany, Cary Elwes, Danny Huston, Kevin Conroy, Michael B. Jordan and C. Thomas Howell. The Flashpoint Paradox streets on July 30th.

Synapse Details Demons and Demons 2

Independent U.S. distributors Synapse Films have provided details for their upcoming Blu-ray releases of director Lamberto Bava's Demons (1985), starring Urbano Barberini, Natasha Hovey, and Karl Zinny, and Demons 2 (1986), starring David Edwin Knight, Nancy Brilli, and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni. Both are expected to arrive on the market in November.

Heaven's Gate Blu-ray

French label Carlotta Films has supplied images for its upcoming standard and Limited Collector's Blu-ray editions of director Michael Cimino's controversial epic film Heaven's Gate (1980), starring Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, John Hurt, and Isabelle Huppert. The two releases will be available for purchase in France on November 20th.

Soda and Film Movement Acquire Anthony Chen's Ilo Ilo

British distributors Soda Pictures and U.S. distributors Film Movement have acquired the distribution rights to director Anthony Chen's Ilo Ilo, starring Koh Jia Ler, Angeli Bayani, Tian and Wen Chen. Last week, the film won the Camera d'Or Award for Best First Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

The UK branch of Warner Brothers has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray director Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer (2013), starring Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, and Stanley Tucci. Standard 2D and 3D Blu-ray releases of the film will be available for purchase on July 22.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of director/co-writer Walter Hill's Bullet to the Head, starring Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christian Slater and Jason Momoa. The action film is based on a French graphic novel by Alexis Nolent, and arrives on Blu-ray on July 16th.

Aniplex of America has announced the Blu-ray release of Blue Exorcist: Set I and Set II, due on July 9th and September 10th respectively. Each 5-disc box set includes 13 episodes of the supernatural anime series, an illustration booklet, an original soundtrack CD and a variety of special features.

Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has released a new trailer for Joshua Oppenheimer's documentary film The Act of Killing. Earlier this year, The Act of Killing won the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary Film and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Danny Boyle's latest film Trance (2013), starring James McAvoy (Atonement), Rosario Dawson (Eagle Eye), Vincent Cassel (Brotherhood of the Wolf, La Haine), and Tuppence Middleton (Cleanskin). Street date is July 23rd.

Collection: Upgrade to Blu-ray

Upon request we have added an "Upgrade to Blu-ray" function for collectors. If you have a DVD collection you can now click "Upgrade to Blu-ray" and it will display all titles you own on DVD, but not on Blu-ray. This also works on bundles.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the North American distribution rights to director Jim Jarmusch's latest film, Only Lovers Left Alive, starring Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, and Mia Wasikowska. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Color Wins the Palme d'Or

Franco-Tunisian dierctor Abdellatif Kechiche's latest film, La vie d'Adèle a.k.a Blue is the Warmest Color, won the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival late last night. The jury also presented the award to the film's two stars: Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux.

You will now receive the initial alert and then a new alert every time the price continues to drop (the additional price drop will have to be at least by 10 cents or more).

For the week of May 28th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing Joseph Mankiewicz and Darryl Zanuck's Cleopatra to Blu-ray. This historical epic about the iconic Egyptian queen was, for a time, the most expensive film ever made. In 1963, it cost over $44 million, or roughly $326 million when adjusted for inflation.
