This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Grindhouse Releasing Goes Blu

Independent U.S. distributors Grindhouse Releasing have announced their first two Blu-ray releases: Amos Sefer's An American Hippie in Israel (1972), starring Asher Tzarfati, Shmuel Wolf, and Lily Avidan, and Robert Hartford-Davis's Corruption (1968), starring Peter Cushing, Sue Lloyd, and Noel Trevarthen. The two releases will arrive on the market on September 10th.

Newly restored, German director Werner Herzog's classic film Aguirre, Wrath of God, starring starring Klaus Kinski, Ruy Guerra, Allejandro Repulles, and Helena Rojo, is heading back to UK cinemas. The British Film Institute has released a trailer for the new restoration.

StudioCanal have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Derek Cianfrance's latest film The Place Beyond the Pines, (2012), starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, and Ray Liotta. The preliminary release date set by the studio is August 5th.

Upcoming Shout Factory Titles (Updated)

Independent distributors Shout Factory have dated three catalog titles which will appear on Blu-ray later this year: L.Q. Jones' A Boy and His Dog (1975), Dennis Hopper's The Hot Spot (1990), and Chen Kaige's Killing Me Softly. The three films will be available for purchase in August.

Blu-ray.com writer Michael Reuben says the the movie—which made its Blu-ray debut last week—"may be the greatest war film ever made without a single battle."

British distributors Arrow Video have officially announced and detailed their upcoming standard and SteelBook Blu-ray editions of Brian De Palma's Blow Out (1981), starring John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and John Lithgow. Using a newly restored high-definition transfer supervised by director De Palma, Blow Out will be available for purchase on May 27th.

For the week of May 14th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing Cloud Atlas to Blu-ray. This feature, a joint collaboration between The Matrix creators Lana & Andy Wachowski and Run Lola Run director Tom Tykwer, is a sprawling, ambitious take on David Mitchell's equally sprawling and ambitious novel; both iterations of Cloud Atlas present six interlocking stories.
