This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

New Trailer: Disney's Planes

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new trailer for producer John Lasseter and director Klay Hall's Cars spin-off Planes, this one a montage of animation from the film set to music by composer Mark Mancina. The high-flying computer animated adventure features the voice talents of Dane Cook, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and John Cleese, and is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on August 9th.

For the week that ended on May 12th, Paramount Media Home Distribution's Jack Reacher debuted at number one on the Blu-ray-only media list. Engineered as a new action franchise for star Tom Cruise, the film received more attention as a result of its depictions of gun violence in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, and that controversy limited its box-office appeal.

Paramount and CBS Home Entertainment have officially announced and detailed the Blu-ray releases of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4. Both Redemption and the 6-disc season set arrive on Blu-ray on July 30th and feature newly remastered video presentations, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track and a variety of extras.

Criterion Announces August Titles

The Criterion Collection has announced five titles for Blu-ray release in August. On August 6th, the studio will release Max Ophuls' The Earrings of Madame de... (1953). On August 13th, it will release John Frankenheimer's Seconds (1966). On August 20th, it will release Satyajit Ray's The Big City (1963) and Charulata (1964). And on August 27th, it will release Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be (1942).

The Beatles' Help! Heading to Blu-ray

Universal Music will release on Blu-ray director Richard Lester's Help! (1965). The Blu-ray release will feature a newly restored version of the film with a 5.1 soundtrack and over an hour of supplemental features. The preliminary release date set by the studio is June 25th.

Marvel Television and ABC Studios have released a three-minute promo for executive producer Joss Whedon's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., set to air on Tuesdays this Fall on ABC. The series follows Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson and a team of young S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who investigate strange happenings in a post-Chitauri Invasion world, after the climactic events depicted in The Avengers.
