Actor Robert Downey Jr. has signed a new two-picture deal with Marvel to return as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Marvel's The Avengers 2 and Marvel's The Avengers 3. The official announcement was made earlier today at Marvel.com.
The Avengers 2 is written and directed by Joss Whedon. In addition to Downey Jr., the cast will include Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Samuel L. Jackson. Production is set to begin in March 2014 and the film is expected to open in theaters across the U.S. on May 1, 2015.
