Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Cinema Verite Blu-ray

In April, HBO Home Entertainment will bring Cinema Verite to Blu-ray. Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), and James Gandolfini (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3) star in this telefilm about what happened behind-the-scenes of America's first reality television program, An American Family. Cinema Verite is expected to street on April 24th.

Bond 50 Blu-ray Collection Pre-order

At this year's Consumer Electronics Show, the guests at the James Bond Directors' Panel announced that MGM and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring the Bond 50 collection to Blu-ray this year. Commemorating the iconic spy's fiftieth anniversary, the box set includes twenty-two Bond thrillers, including nine never-before-released on Blu-ray. The studios have not yet set a street date for this package.

Footloose (2011) Blu-ray

Next March, Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment will bring Footloose to Blu-ray. Director Craig Brewer's reimagining of the 1984 musical stars Kenny Wormald (Clerks II) as Ren MacCormack, a free-spirited Boston teenager whose efforts to bring dancing to his new home of Bomont, Georgia, pit him against the town's iron-willed Reverend (Dennis Quaid, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). Footloose is expected to street on March 6th.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release a 35th Anniversary Edition of Wizards this March. Directed by Ralph Bakshi (Fire and Ice), this animated adventure centers on kindly sorcerer Avatar as he tries to save a post-apocalyptic Earth from his evil brother, Blackwolf. Wizards is expected to street on March 13th.

After yesterday's early retail announcement, Paramount Home Entertainment has finally confirmed the April release of Chinatown on Blu-ray. Directed by Roman Polanski (Repulsion), this classic noir homage stars Jack Nicholson (The Departed) as Jake Gittes, a private eye in 1930's Los Angeles who unwittingly becomes a pawn in a complex murder-and-land rights scheme. Chinatown streets on April 3rd.

Universal Studios Unveiling Extensive Film Restoration Results (Updated)

As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios will unveil the results of its extensive film restoration campaign. Beginning this year, thirteen Universal titles will benefit from the studio's labors, titles that include All Quiet on the Western Front, Jaws, The Sting, Frankenstein, and Schindler's List. Universal will also follow many of these restorations with individual Blu-ray releases.

Battle Royale: The Complete Collection Blu-ray

This March, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment will bring Battle Royale: The Complete Collection to Blu-ray. Inspired by Koushun Takami's controversial bestseller, the two films comprising the collection - Battle Royale and Battle Royale II: Requiem - detail a dystopian future where teenagers are forced to fight to the death in a yearly competition. Battle Royale: The Complete Collection streets on March 20th.

Sony Announces New Blu-ray Players, 4K Upscaling

Earlier yesterday at CES in Las Vegas, Sony announced three new Blu-ray players: BDP-S390, BDP-S590, and BDP-S790. According to Sony's press release, the first two players will offer Wi-Fi connectivity with app support (Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, etc.), while the BDP-S790 will offer Wi-Fi connectivity with app support and Skype. The big news, however, is that the upcoming BDP-S790 will also have the ability to upscale any content to 4K.

Anguish Blu-ray

French label Opening Distribution has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Spanish director Bogas Luna's horror thriller Anguish (1987), starring Zelda Rubinstein, Michael Lerner, Talia Paul, and Àngel Jové. In 1988, the film won Goya Award for Best Special Effects. Street date is Street date is March 7th.

Camelot: 45th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

This April, Warner Home Entertainment will bring the 45th Anniversary Edition of Camelot to Blu-ray. This screen adaptation of T.H. White's novel The Once and Future King focuses on the mythic love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris, Unforgiven), his queen Guinevere (Vanessa Redgrave, Mission: Impossible), and noble Knight of the Round Table Lancelot (Franco Nero, Django). Camelot streets on April 24th.

Hop Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will bring Hop to Blu-ray this March. This CGI/live action hybrid stars the voice of Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) as E.B., the Easter-Bunny-in-waiting who shuns his destiny in order to become a rock-and-roll drummer. Hop is expected to street on March 23rd.

Two Roman Polanski Titles Headed for Blu-ray

With two early retail announcements, Paramount and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have indicated plans to bring Roman Polanski's Chinatown as well as his Carnage to Blu-ray. Paramount's Chinatown finds Polanski paying homage to Hollywood's great film noirs, while Sony's Carnage is the director's comic attack on upper-class privilege. Carnage is expected to street on March 20th, while Chinatown has a tentative April 3rd street date.

Out of Africa Blu-ray

As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer re-issues of catalog titles, and a new Out of Africa Blu-ray will arrive in the March wave. Director Sydney Pollack's highly acclaimed romance stars Meryl Streep (Manhattan) as a woman who enters a passionate affair with a big-game hunter (Robert Redford, The Natural) after moving to East Africa. Out of Africa streets on March 6th, 2012.

Harvey Blu-ray

The UK branch of Universal Studios has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray director Henry Koster's Harvey (1950), starring James Stewart, Josephine Hull, and Peggy Dow. In 1951, Harvey won Oscar Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hull). The preliminary release date set by the studio is March 5th.

Independent British distributors Verve Pictures will release on Blu-ray Colombian director Rodrigo Garcia's (Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her) Mother and Child (2009), starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington, Jimmy Smits, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Blu-ray will be available for purchase in shops across the UK on March 12th.

The directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Brandt (Wanted), this thriller stars Richard Gere (Chicago ) as a retired CIA operative who teams up with a green young agent (Topher Grace, Traffic) in order to hunt a Soviet assassin. A large hue and cry was heard from classic film fans when it turned out the new Blu-ray release of the venerable multi-Oscar winning film West Side Story had an inexplicable fade out during Saul Bass' iconic opening Prologue graphics sequence at circa 4:40 into the film. Fox responded quickly to the brouhaha and is offering a corrected version for those who wish to exchange their discs.
