Gaiam to Acquire Vivendi Entertainment From Universal Music Group

Media distributor Gaiam, Inc. said on Thursday that it entered in agreement to acquire Vivendi Entertainment from Universal Music Group for $13.4 million plus net working capital. The deal is expected to be completed later this month.
Nasdaq reported that the merger will create the largest independent and third largest media distributor in the United States for non-theatrical content.
Vivendi Entertainment has distribution agreements with such content producers as Eagle Rock Entertainment, Classic Media, Shout Factory, The Weinstein Company, National Geographic, and Palm Pictures, amongst others.
