Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Happy Feet Two Blu-ray

In March, Warner Home Entertainment will bring Happy Feet Two to Blu-ray. This animated sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2006 feature finds Mumble (Elijah Wood, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) trying to help his son Erik (Ava Acres, Weeds: Season Six) realize his talents. Mumble and Erik's plans go awry, however, when a great threat to the penguin nation emerges. Happy Feet Two streets on March 13th.

Pal Joey Blu-ray (Updated)

Next month, Twilight Time will bring Pal Joey to Blu-ray. Director George Sidney's 1957 screen adaptation of the Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart musical, Pal Joey stars Frank Sinatra (The Manchurian Candidate) as the title character, a self-serving crooner whose desire to own a San Francisco nightclub leads him to seduce a stripper-turned-socialite (Rita Hayworth, The Lady from Shanghai). Pal Joey streets on February 14th.

This year, Universal Studios is celebrating its 100th Anniversary and is planning to release a number of its most beloved films on Blu-ray. Now, the studio has released a promo video with clips from some of these recently restored films and comments from the people involved with their restorations.

Through January 21st, Amazon is offering Seasons One and Two for $19.99 each (a 50% discount from the sets' respective MSRP of $39.99).

As part of its 100th Anniversary, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer re-issues of catalog titles, and the Quest Blu-ray will arrive in the March wave. Jean-Claude Van Damme (Universal Soldier) makes his directorial debut with this thriller about a scheming criminal (Van Damme) who flees the police in 1920's New York City only to find himself enrolled in a mysterious martial arts tournament. The Quest streets on March 27th.

This adventure stars Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow) as a medieval knight who forges an unusual partnership with the realm's last dragon (Sean Connery, From Russia with Love). Independent British distributors Artificial Eye have revealed that they are planning to release a box set with four films by acclaimed Japanese director Kenji Mizoguchi: Osaka Elegy (1936), The Story Of The Last Crysanthemum (1939), Sisters of the Gion (1936), and Utamaro And His Five Women (1946). The preliminary street date set by the distributors is February 27th.

Recently restored, Don Barton's Zaat (also known as The Blood Waters of Dr. Z) (1971) will be released as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack via Film Chest on the CULTRA and HD Cinema Classics labels. The preliminary street date set by the labels is February 21.

A Trip to the Moon Blu-ray in the U.S.

Earlier this month Blu-ray.com announced that French distributors Lobster Films are preparing a Blu-ray release of Georges Méliès' legendary short film Le Voyage dans la Lune a.k.a A Trip to the Moon (1902). Flicker Alley have now revealed that they are also planning to release the original hand-painted color version of the film in the United States, in a limited-edition SteelBook case.

Independent British distributors Peccadillo Pictures have detailed their upcoming Blu-ray release of Andrew Haigh's Weekend (2011), starring Tom Cullen, Chris New and Laura Freeman. Last year, the film won Most Promising Newcomer and Best Achievement in Production Awards at the British Independent Film Awards. Street date is March 5th.

Focus Features and Apple have released the first theatrical trailer for Moonrise Kingdom. Filmmaker Wes Anderson's live-action follow-up to the Academy Award-nominated Fantastic Mr. Fox, this whimsical dramedy examines the chaos that erupts in a small New England town, circa the 1960's, after two young camp scouts fall in love and run away together. Moonrise Kingdom's scheduled U.S. release date is May 25th.

Independent British distributors Eureka Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Hwanghae a.k.a The Yellow Sea (2010), a Korean drama starring Yun-seok Kim and directed by Hong-jin Na, who won critical acclaim for his previous film The Chaser. Street date is March 26th.

For the week ending 01/08/2012, Contagion infected the No. 1 slot on both the Blu-ray and the overall package media sales charts. Produced with a budget of $60 million, the release from Warner Brothers finished its worldwide theatrical box office run with a modest total of $135 million. Contagion had a solid bow for Blu-ray as it managed 40% of its total package unit sales from the HD format.

Warner Reissues of Kane and Chain Saw

This year, Warner Home Entertainment will bring reissues of Citizen Kane and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to Blu-ray. Previously available as a Best Buy-exclusive, this version of Citizen Kane expands its release schedule to retailers everywhere on January 17th, while The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's 40th Anniversary Edition is expected to street on October 1st.
