This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

20th Century Studios is preparing a combo pack release of Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society (1989), starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Gale Hansen. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 29.

Anchor Bay Films and AKA Pictures have announced the Blu-ray release of indie-short turned feature film The Rambler, which stars Dermot Mulroney (Stoker, The Grey), Lindsay Pulsipher (True Blood, Justified) and Natasha Lyonne (American Pie, But I'm A Cheerleader). Written and directed by Calvin Lee Reeder, The Rambler streets on June 25th.

MPI Home Video has revealed that it plans to bring to Blu-ray acclaimed Brazilian director Walter Salles' On the Road (2012), starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Buscemi, and Terrence Howard. The preliminary release date set by the studio is August 6th.

Warner Bros. has released a second theatrical trailer for writer/director Todd Phillips' The Hangover Part III, starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong. The final chapter of the riotous bad-boys trilogy is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on May 24th.

Two Umberto Lenzi Films Prepped for Blu-ray

Independent distributors Raro Video USA have confirmed that they are preparing two films by cult Italian director Umberto Lenzi: Nightmare City (1980), starring Hugo Stiglitz, Laura Trotter, and Maria Rosaria Omaggio, and Gang War in Milan (1973), starring Antonio Sabato, Philippe Leroy, and Antonio Casagrande. The two releases are expected to be available for purchase later this year.

For the week that ended on April 7th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's The Bible scored the top figures on both the overall package media and Blu-ray sales rankings. This epic miniseries drummed up no small amount of controversy when it aired last month, but it also drew strong ratings for the History Channel, and its success has continued onto the home media market.

The British Film Institute has revealed that it plans to release a Dual Format edition of Werner Herzog's Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes a.k.a Aguirre, Wrath of God (1972), starring Klaus Kinski, Ruy Guerra, Allejandro Repulles, and Helena Rojo. A preliminary release date is yet to be revealed.

FilmDistrict Acquires Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii

FilmDistgrict announced today that it has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Paul W.S. Anderson's period drama Pompeii (2014). The company will distribute the film in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The preliminary theatrical release date for the U.S. is February 28th, 2014.

The Amityville Horror Trilogy

Restored The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to be Screened at the Berlinale

The Berlinale organizers announced earlier today that a brand new restoration of director Robert Wiene's classic silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari will be screened at the prestigious festival in 2014. Digitally restored, the film will also be screened with a brand new score by New York composer and multi-instrumentalist John Zorn.

We recently added an Amazon Instant Video (AIV) section to the site, so you can now search for AIV titles, keep a collection of your AIV titles, etc. Some functionality and a lot of AIV titles are still missing from the database, but it's being worked on.
