This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Arrow Video have officially announced and detailed their upcoming Blu-ray releases of director Mario Bava's Black Sabbath (1963), starring Michèle Mercier, Lidia Alfonsi, and Boris Karloff, and Baron Blood (1972), starring Joseph Cotten, Elke Sommer, and Massimo Girotti. The two releases will be available for purchase on April 29th.

For the week of April 9th, Universal Studios is bringing Hyde Park on Hudson to Blu-ray. This picture didn't make quite the impact that Universal and Focus Features hoped for when it premiered last December; despite a prestigious topic and the visual acumen of director Roger Michell, critics had a fairly lukewarm response to the film.

Hilco Acquires British Retailer HMV

Hilco U.K. Ltd, which specializes in rescuing struggling retailers, has acquired 141 HMV stores in the UK. The deal, which is valued at approximately 50 million pounds ($76 million), could save 2,500 jobs. Shout Factory has revealed that it plans to release a Collector's Edition Blu-ray of John Carpenter's classic film The Fog (1980), starring Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Janet Leigh. Tech specs and supplemental features to be included on this upcoming release are yet to be revealed, but the preliminary release date set by the studio is July 23rd.

FIlm Critic Roger Ebert Dies at 70

After a decade-long battle with cancer, renowned film critic Roger Ebert died today at the age of 70. The Pulitzer Prize-winning industry legend worked for The Chicago Sun-Times for 46-years, posting on Tuesday what has become his last message to his readers: "So on this day of reflection I say again, thank you for going on this journey with me. I'll see you at the movies."
