This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Dead Poets Society 4K Blu-ray

For the week of June 4th, Twentieth Century Fox is bringing A Good Day to Die Hard to Blu-ray. The fifth installment in the Die Hard franchise finds the series showing its age, though it's an entertaining diversion for action junkies. Other releases include Anchor Bay's CGI comedy Escape from Planet Earth, Warner's imperfect-but-massive Clint Eastwood: Twenty-Film Collection, and Sony's Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season set.

IFC Films Acquires New Abel Ferrara Film

IFC Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to acclaimed director Abel Ferrara's latest film, Welcome to New York, starring Gérard Depardieu, Jacqueline Bisset, Marie Mouté, and Natasha Romanova. The film, which is currently in the post-production phase, was promoted by French distributors Wild Bunch at the Cannes Film Festival.

Scream Factory, the horror-thriller offshoot of independent film distributor Shout Factory, has announced that it plans to add two titles to its Blu-ray catalog: Philippe Mora's The Beast Within (1982) and David Schmoeller's Crawlspace (1986). The two releases will arrive on the market later this year.

His latest project was as stunt coordinator for A Good Day to Die Hard, overseeing the many action set-pieces of John McClane's explosion-filled, bullet-riddled trip to Moscow.

Kon-Tiki Filmmakers Selected to Direct Pirates of The Caribbean 5

Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have selected Norwegian filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 5. The film is set to open in theaters around the world on July10, 2015. Ronning and Sandberg recently directed Kon-Tiki, which was selected to represent Norway in the Foreign Language Film Category of last year's Academy Awards.
