This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

The UK branch of Universal Studios will release standard and Limited SteelBook Blu-ray editions of Justin Lin's Fast & Furious 6 (2013), starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Luke Evans, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez. The two release will be available for purchase on September 16th.

Independent U.S. distributors Severin Fims have confirmed that they are working on a Blu-ray release of cult director Jess Franco's Les nuits brûlantes de Linda a.k.a The Hot Nights of Linda (1975), starring Alice Arno, Lina Romay, and Pierre Taylou. The release is expected to arrive on the market later this Summer.

The British Film Institute has released a trailer promoting a series of upcoming events that will celebrate classic British Horror and TV. The celebration will begin in August with a Monster Weekend of classic British Horror, outdoors at the British Museum - the first in a series of landmark events trailing a major four-month film season at BFI Southbank and across the UK from October 2013 to January 2014.

Blu-ray Sales, June 17-23: Jack the Giant Slayer Journeys to Number One

For the week that ended on June 23rd, Warner Bros' Jack the Giant Slayer took the number one spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall media rankings. Director Bryan Singer's adventure was considered a disappointment after its theatrical release last March. The film, which accrued an estimated production budget of $195 million, grossed only $65 million domestically and did not do much better with critics.

Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai Heading to the UK

Criterion's Merchant Ivory Titles Going Out of Print

The Criterion Collection has announced that all films in its Merchant Ivory Collection (this includes DVD releases), as well as the Blu-ray release of James Ivory's Howards End, will soon go out of print. Copies of many of these films are still available at Amazon and other retailers. The Criterion Collection will also sell remaining stock via its site until the end of June.
