Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

D.J. Caruso's I Am Number Four, based on a book of the same name by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, is this weeks biggest release. It is a teen sci-fi drama which follows the trials and tribulations of John Smith, portrayed by Alex Pettyfer, as he tries to escape his would be assassins that have followed him from his home planet.

Two Nagisa Ôshima Films on Blu-ray in July

British distributors Optimum Home Entertainment will release on Blu-ray two films by Japanese director Nagisa Ôshima: the controversial In The Realm of The Senses (1976) and Empire of Passion (1978). Technical specs and region coding status for these releases are unknown at the moment. Street date is July 25th.

Outside the Law Blu-ray Coming Up

British distributors Optimum Home Entertainment have revealed that they are preparing a Blu-ray release of Rachid Bouchareb's Hors-la-loi a.k.a Outside the Law (2010), starring Jamel Debbouze (Amelie), Roschdy Zem (Days of Glory), and Sami Bouajila (The Nest). Last year, the film was selected to represent Algeria in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 83rd Academy Awards. Street date is August 29th.

The Big Lebowski Limited Edition Blu-ray

The Dude is finally coming to Blu-ray. Universal Studios Home Entertainment has revealed all the details surrounding the Blu-ray release of the Coen Brothers' cult comedy classic, The Big Lebowski, which is officially confirmed for August 16th. The Limited Edition Blu-ray will feature a remastered version of the film and be housed in a 28-page digibook along with a digital copy.

Independent British distributors Soda Pictures have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Tran Anh Hung's Noruwei no mori a.k.a Norwegian Wood (2010). Earlier this year, the film won Best Cinematographer Award (Lee Ping Bin) at the Asian Film Awards. Street date is July 4th.

This "Definitive Edition" of Richard Rush's 1980 cult classic, which streets on June 7th, 2011, features an array of supplementary material, most of which was newly produced for the upcoming Blu-ray.

British distributors Artificial Eye have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins (2010), starring Kôji Yakusho (Shall We Dance), Takayuki Yamada (Vengeance Can Wait), and Yûsuke Iseya (Memories of Matsuko). Based on a screenplay by Kaneo Ikegami, the film tells the story of a group of unemployed samurai who must bring down a sadistic lord. Street date is September 5th.

The Wayans Bros. Don't Be a Menace... Coming to Blu-ray

On July 5, Echo Bridge Entertainment is planning to release another Miramax catalog title, the Wayans Brothers' 1996 comedy Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood. Written by and starring Marlon and Shawn Wayans, the film spoofs several prominent African-American-themed films of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Warner Brothers has issued a new trailer for Green Lantern that focuses on the film's RealD 3D presentation. Paramount Pictures has also released a RealD 3D trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The online version of both trailers, of course, are presented in 2D, but fans will no doubt appreciate yet another look at two of the summer's most anticipated blockbusters.

Hong Kong-based distributors Panorama are set to release controversial Japanese director Kôji Wakamatsu's (United Red Army) latest film Caterpillar (2010), starring Shinobu Terajima, Keigo Kasuya, and Emi Masuda. Last year, the film won Silver Bear Award for Best Actress (Shinobu Terajima) at the Berlin International Film Festival. Street date is May 27th.

On August 23rd, 2011, Walt Disney Studios will release Bambi II on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. This 2006 sequel to the classic Disney story follows Bambi and his father, the Great Prince, as they navigate through the ways of the forest. Bambi II features Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") as the Great Prince and Alexander Gould (Finding Nemo) as Bambi, as well as songs from Alison Krauss and Martina McBride.

Summit Entertainment has provided Blu-ray.com with an exclusive clip from the upcoming Blu-ray release of writer/director Patrick Lussier's Drive Angry. In the clip, Lussier discusses the benefits of using 3D cameras and shooting in native 3D, as opposed to post-converting 2D footage to 3D.
