In a week without any significant new releases,
The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy
(Extended Editions), managed to remain the top seller on the Blu-ray sales
chart for a second consecutive week. Sales of
The Lord of the Rings reached 75% of the total recorded by
Sucker Punch, which topped the overall sales chart once again. The Blu-ray boxed set did drop one spot to No. 3 on the overall package media sales chart.
Repeating at No. 2 in the Blu-ray and No. 1 in the overall sales chart was
Sucker Punch. Trying to recoup some of the loses from a disappointing box office run, Snyder's latest effort gathered an impressive 50% of total unit sales from Blu-ray.
Bowing in at No. 3 was Magnolia's
13 Assassins. Takashi Miike's Samurai film received widespread critical acclaim, but due to a limited theatrical release, it performed poorly at the box office with less than $1 million in domestic revenue. Placing No. 7 in the overall sales chart,
13 Assassins, received 53% of its home video sales from the HD format.
