After several weeks of being available for pre-order, Paramount has finally released all the official details regarding the Blu-ray release of their summer superhero movie, Thor. The God of Thunder will hit Blu-ray in a 3D combo pack with Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy versions of the film. A standard two disc set has also been announced, featuring Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy versions.
Thor helped kicked off the summer movie season and performed quite well, pulling in over $440 million worldwide. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, a god of Asgard who has been banished to earth after disobeying his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). The film also featured performances from Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Idris Elba. A sequel has already been greenlit, though director Kenneth Branagh has opted not to return.
Thor will be presented in DTS HD Master Audio 7.1. Special features have not been clearly outlined by the studio, but they have confirmed the sets will include over 80 minutes of bonus materials. A look at the world created by Kenneth Branagh, a featurette about the Marvel Universe, and a sneak peek at next year's The Avengers will all be featured for this release.
Thor will hit retailers on September 13th with a SRP of $44.99 and $54.99 for the 3D edition.
