The 1999 Miramax drama The Cider House Rules has been confirmed for a Blu-ray release by Lionsgate. The film was adapted from the bestselling novel by John Irving (who also wrote the screenplay) and stars Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, Erykah Badu and Michael Caine.
The Lasse Hallström (My Life as a Dog) film centers on Homer Wells, an orphan who grew up in the confines of St. Cloud's Orphanage. While there, he ends up under the guidance of Wilbur Larch (Caine), a doctor who provides abortions. Homer meets a couple (Theron and Rudd) who have the procedure performed by Larch and goes to live with them on their apple farm. The Cider House Rules was nominated for seven Academy Awards, picking up wins for best supporting actor (Michael Caine) and best adapted screenplay (John Irivine).
