French distributors TF1 Video have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Dominik Moll's Le moine a.k.a The Monk (2011), starring Vincent Cassel (Dobermann), Déborah François (Female Agents), Joséphine Japy (Neuilly Yo Mama!), and Sergi López (With a Friend Like Harry...).
Adapted from the cult classic Gothic novel by Mathew Gregory Lewis published in 1796, the film follows the rise and fall of a Capuchin Monk in 17th century Madrid.
The original Le moine was released in 1972. The film was directed by Greek helmer Adonis Kyrou and was based on a script by Luis Bunuel and Jean-Claude Carrière. Ambrosio, the evil monk, was played by Italian actor Franco Nero (Django).
Preliminary street date for Le moine is November 23.
