Netflix Unveils 60% Price Hike, Adds Blu-ray/DVD-only Plan

It appears that Netflix will be less attractive for people who want to rent discs and stream videos. In a somewhat surprising move earlier today, the company eliminated its $9.99 per month fee for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD rentals. Customers will now have to pay $15.98 for a single DVD out at a time, which is approximately 60% more for the same type of service. According to Netflix, the new plan reflects $7.99 for unlimited streaming and 7.99% for DVD usage.
Customers who wish to have two DVDs out at a time plus unlimited streaming will have to pay $19.98 per month.
Following chief content officer Ted Sarandos' recent statement that the company will turn its focus back to physical distribution, Netflix has also introduced a new $7.99 per month plan, which allows its customers to have one DVD out a time on an unlimited basis.
Customers who wish to add Blu-rays in the new plan would have to pay $9.99 per month. This option excludes internet streaming.
