One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Onkyo With Spotify: Now In The U.S.

Onkyo has announced that the digital music service Spotify is now available through home theater receivers in the U.S. Onkyo will provide a firmware update that will enable its 2011 network capable receivers beginning with the TX-NR609 to support Spotify. Onkyo will also be introducing additional networked Spotify-ready products in the near future. All you need to enjoy Spotify on Onkyo is an internet connection and a Spotify Premium account.

Eraserhead Heading to Australia

Australian distributors Umbrella Entertainment have revealed that they are getting ready to release on Blu-ray David Lynch's groundbreaking film debut, Eraserhead (1977). Technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is September 1.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Blu-ray

Fox Home Video will release the original 1992 horror comedy film, Buffy the Vampire Slayer on September 13th. The Joss Whedon (Firefly) creation stars Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, David Arquette and Rutger Hauer.

Universal has announced the release of the 2011 action thriller Hanna. The U.S./European production stars Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) as the lead character alongside Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett. A release date of September 6th has been confirmed.

Cars Director's Edition Collection

Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for a new Cars Blu-ray collection from Disney and Pixar. The set will include both Cars and Cars 2, as well as the made-for-television shorts Mater's Tall Tales. The films will come in collectible packaging with Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy versions of each feature. The 3D version of Cars 2 will also be included. A SRP of $119.99 has been listed.

Criterion's October Blu-ray Line-Up: Korda, Shindo, Antonioni, Kenton, Linklater, Kobayashi and Pasolini

Criterion has announced a new batch of titles that will debut in October. They include Kaneto Shindo's Kuroneko, Zoltán Korda's The Four Feathers, Michelangelo Antonioni's Identification of a Woman and Erie C. Kenton's Island of Lost Souls. Past titles getting the Blu-ray treatment include Dazed and Confused, Harakiri, and Salò, or The 120 Days of Sodom.

Martin Scorsese's Hugo Trailer

The first trailer for Martin's Scorsese's next project has hit the web. Hugo, an adventure focusing on a young orphan boy, will mark the director's first family film and his first foray into 3D. It is scheduled for a Thanksgiving release on November 23rd, 2011.

Warner Bros. Home Video has announced the release of Final Destination 2 and Final Destination 3 on Blu-ray. Both horror thrillers will street on August 30th with a SRP of $19.99 each. Special features have yet to be announced.

Pirates on Blu-ray First, DVD Release Coming Later On

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is getting ready to test the market with a bold move. The studio has apparently chosen to delay the DVD-only release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), which will arrive in stores on November 15th, almost a month after the film debuts on Blu-ray.

Warner Bros. has announced details regarding the release of Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition. The Blu-ray/DVD combo box will feature a treasure trove of goodies (including a 144-page book and a chance to win a trip to LA for two) and bonus features not included on previous releases. The collector's box hits shelves on October 18th.

Blockbuster Targets Unhappy Netflix Customers

Following the price hike Netflix unveiled, Blockbuster has announced a limited time offer to Netflix customers to switch to Blockbuster Total Access. Customers who choose one of Blockbuster's two most popular Total Access plans, from now until September 15th, will receive a free 30-day trial. After the promotion expires, customers will be billed either $9.99 for one disc at a time, or $14.99 for two discs at a time per month.

Anchor Bay and The Weinstein Company have announced the release of Richard Ayodade's Submarine for Blu-ray. The indie coming-of-age comedy stars Noah Taylor (Almost Famous), Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Craig Roberts (Jane Eyre). A release date of October 4th has been set.

Sony to Remove HD Playback of Blu-rays over Component from Future PS3s

A new retailer report has indicated that Sony are going to remove HD playback of Blu-rays via component from the forthcoming PS3 model bearing serial numbers starting with CECH-3000 because of an AACS Mandate. Current models remain unaffected by this change. The new models also remove other small physical characteristics and replace the silent 120mm fans with more noisy 80mm fans.

Disney has finally detailed the upcoming Blu-ray versions of their blockbuster summer hit, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film will hit retailers in a standard 2-disc Blu-ray set and a Limited Edition 5-disc Combo Pack that includes Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copy versions, as well as an additional Blu-ray disc for special features. Both sets will street on October 18th.

French distributors TF1 Video have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Dominik Moll's Le moine a.k.a The Monk (2011), starring Vincent Cassel (Dobermann), Déborah François (Female Agents), Joséphine Japy (Neuilly Yo Mama!), and Sergi López (With a Friend Like Harry...). Preliminary street date is November 23.

Blu-ray Sales, July 4-July 10: Lord of The Rings Remains at the Top

In a week without any significant new releases, The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Editions), managed to remain the top seller on the Blu-ray sales chart for a second consecutive week. Sales of The Lord of the Rings Blu-ray boxed set reached 75% of the total recorded by Sucker Punch, which topped the overall sales chart once again.
