FUNimation Announces August Blu-ray Slate

In one of its most aggressive Blu-ray release windows to date, FUNimation is bringing eight anime titles to Blu-ray this August, including:

Each week in August is home to at least one title's high definition release. Only one title, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, is a bundle of separate, previously released parts. Series and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack details are as follows:


Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail (Street date: August 6th)

Synopsis: Rokuro Okajima is meek, mundane, and metropolitan. His business trip to South East Asia turns from pleasure cruise to festival of pain when modern pirates board the ship and take him hostage. Revy, Dutch and Benny are merciless, maniacal, and mean. Together, they make up the crew of the Black Lagoon. Making a living in a city where the most villainous of villains make themselves at home isn't without its risks, but they take on any job available to them. Smuggling guns, drugs, kidnapped children, and stolen goods is all part of a hard days work.

    Technical specifications and extras have yet to be detailed, although both English and Japanese audio will be included, along with English subtitles. Roberta's Blood Trail features OVA episodes 1-5, and is being made available as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
Haganai: Part 1 (Street date: August 6th)

Synopsis: Kodaka Hasegawa has just transferred to St. Chronica's Academy and he's having a hard time making friends. With his naturally blond hair and fierce looking eyes, people constantly mistake him for a delinquent. One day, he runs into his bad-tempered loner of a classmate, Yozora, while she's talking to her imaginary friend, Tomo. Since neither of them have any friends, they decide to form a club and start recruiting some. Little by little, lonely classmates join their club to learn how to build friendships through cooking together, playing games, and other group activities. But, with so many misfits, will the club members really be able to get along?

Haganai: Part 1 features series episodes 1-13, and is being made available via a standard Blu-ray/DVD combo pack release and a Limited Edition BD/DVD combo pack set.
Eureka Seven AO: Part 1 (Street date: August 13th)

Synopsis: The electrifying successor to the mecha epic Eureka Seven propels fans through intense, eye-popping action in the sky, sea, and space one battle at a time. The year is 2025. Earth is engulfed in the crossfire between massive warring alien life forms that leave annihilation in their wake. While searching for clues about his past, Ao is caught in an attack and forced to fly a giant humanoid fighter craft to save himself and his island. Fragments of the teenager's origin come to light when a hostile shape-shifter seeking revenge on Ao's missing mother -- who vanished two years after his birth -- targets him instead. Consumed with learning how his machine of war is connected to his mother and the monster that now pursues him, the young pilot will fly full throttle into combat zones without hesitation.

Fairy Tail: Part 6 (Street date: August 20th)

Series Synopsis: In the Kingdom of Fiore, powerful wizards make their living by joining magical guilds and contracting out their services to become "wizards for hire". Harnessing the forces of Dragon Fire, Ice, Weaponry, and the Zodiac, four young wizards of the infamous guild Fairy Tail team up to seek their fortunes. Growing stronger with every mission, they travel the countryside helping people and battling rival guilds, but with personalities as different as their magic skills, this team may end up doing more damage than good.

    Technical specifications and extras have yet to be detailed, although both English and Japanese audio will be included, along with English subtitles. Fairy Tail: Part 6 features series episodes 61-72 and is being made available as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
High School DxD: Part 1 (Street date: August 20th)

Synopsis: Issei Hyodo is your average perverted high school student whose one wish in life is to have his own harem, but he's got to be one of the unluckiest guys around. He goes on his first date with a girl only to get brutally attacked and killed when it turns out the girl is really a vicious fallen angel. To top it all off, he's later reincarnated as a devil by his gorgeous senpai who tells him that she is also a devil and now his master! One thing's for sure, his peaceful days are over. In a battle between devils and angels, who will win?

High School DxD: Part 1 features series episodes 1-12, and is being made available via a standard Blu-ray/DVD combo pack release and a Limited Edition BD/DVD combo pack set.
Legend of the Legendary Heroes: Complete Series (Street date: August 20th)

Synopsis: Ryner Lute is a lazy student of Roland Empire Royal Magician's school. One day, Roland Empire goes to war against a neighboring country Estabule, and he lost his classmates in the battle. After the war, Lute sets out for a journey to search the relics of a "Legendary Hero" at Emperor Sion Astar's command. And he finds out a deadly curse spreading the continent.

    Legend of the Legendary Heroes: Complete Series features episodes 1-25, and is being made available as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. Tech specs and extras are identical to the 2012 separate series releases of Part 1 and Part 2.
Guilty Crown: Part 1 and Part 2 (Street date: August 27th)

Synopsis: In the near future, a meteorite carrying a foreign virus crashes in Japan, leading to a devastating nation-wide infection and total anarchy. Several years later, Shu—a teen with a special ability awakened by the Apocalypse Virus—meets a strange girl who incites him to join the struggle against a government organization's robotic forces and a secret society whose goal remains shrouded in mystery.

Guilty Crown: Part 1 features series episodes 1-11 and is being made available via a standard Blu-ray DVD combo pack release and a Limited Edition combo pack set. Guilty Crown: Part 2 features episodes 12-22 and is being made available via a standard BD/DVD combo pack.
