This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

20th Century Studios is preparing a combo pack release of Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society (1989), starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Gale Hansen. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 29.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced it will release Charlie Zone on Blu-ray on June 4th. Winner of four major awards at the 2011 Atlantic Film Festival, the dramatic thriller stars Amanda Crew (Sex Drive, Charlie St. Cloud, The Haunting in Connecticut), Glen Gould (Cashing In, Mohawk Girls) and Mpho Koaho (Saw III, Four Brothers, Blindness).

HBO has announced the Blu-ray release of Strike Back: Season Two, the next 10-episode entry in the action-packed Cinemax/Sky original series. The Brood Heading to the UK

Canadian juggernaut Entertainment One and Toronto-based Prospero Pictures are teaming up to produce acclaimed director David Cronenberg's next film, a thriller, Maps to the Stars. Entertainment One will distribute the film in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Upcoming Olive Films Titles

Independent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they are planning to add four new titles to their Blu-ray catalog: William A. Seiter's One Touch of Venus (1948), Joseph Kane's Flame of Barbary Coast (1945), Gene Fowler Jr.'s Showdown at Boot Hill (1958), and James L. Conway's Hangar 18 (1980). All four titles will be available for purchase in June.

Official Cannes 2013 Line-Up

The official selection for the 66th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival was revealed earlier today in Paris. Director Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby will open the event on May 15. Jerome Salle's Zulu will close the festival on May 26. Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring will be the first film to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section.

R.I.P.D. Trailer

Universal Pictures has issued the first trailer for director Robert Schwentke's R.I.P.D., which stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Mary-Louise Parker. The supernatural action comedy is based on the Dark Horse Entertainment comic book, "Rest in Peace Department" by Peter M. Lenkov, and is set to open in 2D and 3D U.S. theaters on July 19th.

Blu-ray Sales, April 8-14: The Hobbit Journeys Back to the Top

For the week that ended on April 14th, Warner Bros. and New Line Home Entertainment's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey took the top spot on the Blu-ray and overall package lists. The film, which has been a fixture in the top five sales positions since its small-screen debut last month, actually rose from number three to win the highest sales totals.

The Snowmen streets on May 28th alongside the 2-disc Blu-ray release of Series Seven, Part 2, which BBC has now revealed will not include the holiday special.
