This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Dead Poets Society 4K Blu-ray

20th Century Studios is preparing a combo pack release of Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society (1989), starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Gale Hansen. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 29.

IMAX, Picturehouse and Metallica Team Up

IMAX Corporation and Picturehouse announced today that director Nimro Antal's highly anticipated 3D film Metallica Through the Never will be digitally re-mastered into the IMAX 3D format and released wide in North America exclusively in IMAX theatres for a one-week run starting Friday Sept 27th. The film will then be expanded into more theaters on October 4th.

British distributors Kaleidoscope Entertainment have sent us original stills and the trailer for Joss Whedon's latest film Much Ado About Nothing (2012), starring Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Fran Kranz, and Sara Blindauer. The film will open across the United Kingdom and Ireland on June 14th.

Kuroneko Officially Announced

Eureka Entertainment has officially announced and detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of Japanese director Kaneto Shindo's Kuroneko (1968), starring Kichiemon Nakamura, Nobuko Otowa, and Kiwako Taichi. The release will be available for purchase in the United Kingdom on June 24th.

Mario Bava's Black Sabbath Delayed

Independent British distributors Arrow Video confirmed today that the worldwide Blu-ray premiere of Mario Bava's horror classic Black Sabbath has been delayed by two weeks due to further picture and audio restoration requirements. It will now be released on Monday May 13th 2013.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Justin Paul Ritter's The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse, starring Marshal Hilton, Lee Perkins, Maria Olsen and Conroe Brooks. Based on the cult underground Dynamite comic series "The Living Corpse Exhumed" by Ken Haeser and Buz Hasson, Ritter's CG-animated horror fantasy streets on June 18th.

Warner Bros. Offers Early 'Man of Steel' Screening

Warner Bros. has partnered with Walmart to give fans a chance to see Man of Steel in theaters nationwide before the film's official release. It marks the first time that a studio has partnered with a retailer to provide such an opportunity. Tickets for the exclusive screening of Man of Steel will be available for purchase on May 18th at 8am, for a June 13th, 7pm screening.

Universal Music Blu-ray Audio Releases to Launch in May

Universal Music has officially announced it will launch its line of Blu-ray Audio titles on May 14th. Previous details regarding the "High Fidelity Pure Audio" releases indicates Universal Music will release fifty titles over the coming months, all with uncompressed 24bit/96hHz audio, and with music from the likes of Bob Marley, Queen and Stevie Wonder.

A Company Man Blu-ray

Texas-based independent distributors Well Go USA will release on Blu-ray Korean director Lim Sang-yoon's A Company Man (2012), starring So Ji-sub, Kim Dong-joon, Jeon Kuk-hwan, and Lee Mi-yeon. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is August 27th.

New John Woo Film Coming Up

John Woo, the man behind such classic action films as The Killer and Hard Boiled, will direct Flying Tigers, a World War II drama which will be shot as a two-part feature film and six-hour television series. The project will be co-financed by Holland-based Cyrte Investments and China Film Group.

Curzon Film World, Artificial Eye's sister label, will release on Blu-ray Jay Bulger's documentary film Beware of Mr. Baker (2012). Last year, the film was nominated for Grierson Award at the British Film Institute Awards. The preliminary release date set by the label is July 22.

Disney and Marvel have released the first official trailer for director Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Rene Russo, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings and Tadanobu Asano. The film is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on November 8th.

British distributors Artificial Eye have informed us that they are planning to add six titles to their Blu-ray catalog in August: legendary Indian director Satyajit Ray's Charulata: The Lonely Wife (1964), Mahapurush: The Holy Man (1965), and Kapurush: The Coward (1965), French director Olivier Assayas' Apres Mai a.k.a Something in the Air (2012), and Canadian director Atom Egoyan's Calendar (1993) and Exotica (1994).

Texas-based distributors Well Go USA have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Hoon-Jung's action thriller New World (2012), starring Choi Min-Sik (Oldboy), Hwang Jung-Min (A Bittersweet Life), Lee Jung-Jae (The Thieves), and Song Ji-Hyo (A Frozen Flower). The preliminary release date set by the distributors is July 9th.

For the week of April 23rd, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is bringing the 3D version of Jurassic Park to Blu-ray. It's understandable that viewers might balk at the extra dimension considering director Steven Spielberg did not shoot the movie in 3D; this is a post-conversion job, through and through. However, this is a very good post-conversion job - more in line with Titanic than with Clash of the Titans.
