This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life Blu-ray

MGM and Fox Team Up for a Remake of Poltergiest

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Fox 2000 Pictures, a division of Twentieth Century Fox, have teamed up to produce a remake of the classic '80s horror film Poltergeist. Production will begin later this autumn. Gil Kenan will direct the upcoming remake, which will be based on a script by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced the Blu-ray release of William Friedkin's The Exorcist: 40th Anniversary Edition, starring Jason Miller, Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn and Max von Sydow. The new Anniversary Edition streets on October 8th, and includes two new featurettes, "Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist" and "Talk of the Devil," as well as an excerpt from Friedkin's book, "The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir."

Directed by Sam Raimi, this blockbuster prequel to the iconic Wizard of Oz scored big with audiences last March despite garnering mediocre critical notices; the film grossed almost $500 million worldwide on top of its $215 million budget.

Marvel's Iron Man 3 has become the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. According to various reports, the mega-blockbuster passed the $400 million mark on Tuesday at the U.S. box office. Iron Man 3, which is distributed by Disney, has also earned over $1.2 billion worldwide.
