This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Two More Titles Coming Up From Olive Films in September

Independent distributors Olive Films have added two more titles to their September slate: Daniel Mann's Playing for Time (1980), starring Vanessa Redgrave, Jane Alexander, and Maud Adams, and Jerry Hopper's The Atomic City (1952), starring Gene Barry, Lydia Clarke, and Michael Moore.

Surviving Christmas Blu-ray

As part of its 2012 distribution deal with Paramount, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release director Mike Mitchell's Surviving Christmas on Blu-ray later this year. The 2004 DreamWorks holiday comedy stars Ben Affleck, James Gandolfini, Christina Applegate and Catherine O'Hara, and arrives on Blu-ray on November 5th.

The Bronte Sisters Blu-ray Detailed

Cohen Media Group has detailed the Cohen Film Collection release of French director André Téchiné's The Bronte Sisters (Les soeurs Brontë), starring Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Huppert and Marie-France Pisier. The acclaimed 1979 César and Palme d'Or winner has been fully remastered for its Blu-ray debut and arrives on July 30th.

Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 9 Blu-ray

Despite several postponements of the previously announced Series 7 & 8 of Agatha Christie's Poirot—the latest street date is October 1—Acorn Media and RLJ Entertainment have already announced a tentative release date for Series 9. That series, which contains four feature-length adaptations of the famous author's mystery novels, is currently scheduled for October 29, although it would be advisable to check back during the coming months, as this date may change.

Independent British distributors Third Window Films have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Shinya Tsukamoto's Tokyo Fist (1995), starring Kaori Fujii, Shinya Tsukamoto, and Kôji Tsukamoto. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is November 25th.

Universal Pictures announced today that it has entered into a five-year deal with Legendary Entertainment, which recently parted ways with Warner Bros. The official press release describes the new relationship: "Legendary, which is known for producing and financing successful large scale films, will continue to create and finance tent pole films based on intellectual property that is uniquely appealing to the coveted fanboy audience."
