For the week that ended on August 18th, Sony Pictures and Film District's Olympus Has Fallen rose to the top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. This thriller proved the more durable of 2013's two White House-centric actioners, with White House Down being the other screen option; despite a lukewarm Metacritic total of 41%, the film was a hit with audiences, grossing over $161 million worldwide on top of a $70 million budget as opposed to the costlier White House Down's $131 million gross. In addition to its high sales, Olympus Has Fallen also had an HD market share of 45%.

The previous week's sales leader, Universal Studios' Oblivion, dropped to second place on the Blu-ray-only and overall home media rankings. The visually stunning sci-fi epic struggled in theaters last April, overcoming a critical reception of 54% to just make back its estimated $120 million production budget - Oblivion grossed $89 million domestically and $286 million worldwide. On Blu-ray, the Tom Cruise-starring film sold 39% as many discs as Olympus Has Fallen and had an HD market share of 47%, and on the overall package media list, it sold 37% as many units.

Finally, Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe: Retaliation closed out the third spot on the Blu-ray-only media chart. This sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra overcame lengthy reshoots and bad pre-release buzz to find theatrical success in March; despite its low Metacritic score of 41%, it went on to gross over $371 million on top of its $130 million production budget. G.I. Joe: Retaliation sold 19% as many Blu-rays as Olympus Has Fallen and had an HD market share of 43%. In terms of the overall media list, it was in fourth place (the romantic comedy The Big Wedding beat it for third), and it sold 20% as many total units as Olympus Has Fallen.
