Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Warner Home Video has announced the Blu-ray release of '300: The Complete Experience' on July 21 to tie in with the release of 'Watchmen'. Video will be 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. It will be presented in a Digibook edition with a 40-page booklet. This release will have about 2 hours of exclusive extra content not included in the first edition released in 2007.

Warner Home Video has announced the Blu-ray release of 'Natural Born Killers: Director's Cut' for August 25. No specs have been released, but you can expect a 1080p VC-1 video encode and Dolby TrueHD audio. This release will include a new high-def introduction from director Oliver Stone and a 44-page booklet on the film's production.

Last week we informed on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the Japanese monster movie 'Gojira' (also known as 'Godzilla, King of the Monsters'), which reportedly was going to include both the Japanese and the US versions of the movie. Unfortunately, updated information shows that only the Japanese version will be included in this Blu-ray Disc.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is set to release the eighth season of the medical TV series 'Scrubs' on Blu-ray on November 17, nearly three months later than its DVD release. No reason has been given for the comparative delay. No specs have been disclosed, but you can expect a 1080p video presentation accompanied by lossless audio.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the 1978 film 'Midnight Express' to Blu-ray on July 21st. The release will come with a booklet, and while we are still not sure what the booklet will contain, we expect it will be similar to their Blu-ray release of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. Video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

The new editions of 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' on Blu-ray (the Skynet Edition and the Complete Collector's Set), which street May 19, push the envelope of the high-def format. The producer of these releases, authoring veteran Van Ling, discussed some of the challenges of putting together the new Blu-ray version of this science-fiction modern classic.

Summit Entertainment has announced and detailed two science-fiction titles for their release on July 7 on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD: 'Knowing' and 'Push'. Warner Home Video is set to announce a plan to sync up friend networks on Facebook with the interactive community-screening features of Warners' Blu-ray Disc releases, starting with the upcoming 'Watchmen'. In a first for the format, buyers of the Blu-ray will be able to view the film and share comments with their Facebook friends at the same time.

After receiving any early showing of the upcoming film 'Terminator: Salvation', Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub got to sit down with the film's director to ask him a few questions about the film. One of the noteworthy tidbits he found out was that the future Blu-ray and DVD releases would receive 30-40 minutes of deleted scenes, including an alternate ending.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that owners of the 'Da Vinci Code' Blu-ray, which was released April 28th, can now access footage from the world theatrical premiere of 'Angels and Demons' in Rome. To access this exclusive footage, owners simply need to insert their Blu-ray discs into a BD-Live capable player and access the disc's BD-Live menu.

According to research sources, Best Buy is currently the top Blu-ray retailer in the USA, with a market share of 40% to 50%, a percentage even larger than what Wal-Mart holds in standard DVD. Wal-Mart comes second, with 20% to 30%, followed by Amazon, with about 15% to 20%, and Target, with approximately 10%.

British studio 4dvd enters the Blu-ray arena with the release on June 1 of the first two films directed by Danny Boyle, of recent 'Slumdog Millionaire' fame: 'Trainspotting: Ultimate Collector's Edition' and 'Shallow Grave: Special Edition'. We have learned through inside sources that HBO is planning to release 'Rome' on Blu-ray this winter as part of a gift set that will include both seasons of the critically acclaimed series. In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed a number of upcoming Blu-ray titles due to hit store shelves later this year. On June 30th, they are planning to release 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li - Unleashed and Unrated' and '12 Rounds: Extreme Cut' onto Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD release. According to the March update of The NPD Group's retail tracking report, sales of standalone BD players (not including PS3 consoles) in the USA during the first quarter of 2009 increased 72 percent over the same period in 2008. Additionally, consumer surveys showed increased awareness and intention to buy.
