Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Online retail giant Amazon has alerted its customers of an upcoming “TV Week” From Monday, May 18 to Sunday, May 24, the Amazon Gold Box will contain one TV show for each day, on DVD or Blu-ray. Additionally, a “lunchtime deal” will be offered on a different TV title each day from May 18 to May 22, starting at 10 a.m. PST (5 p.m. GMT).

French distributor Studio Canal has announced its Blu-ray slate for June-September 2009. Over thirty titles are upcoming, many of them still unannounced in the US, such as Michael Mann's 'Ali' or Mike Figgis' 'Leaving Las Vegas'. No region code information has been announced, and it should be noted that Studio Canal locks many of its titles to region B.

Eric Doctorow, General Manager of MGM Worldwide, revealed in an interview for Home Media Magazine that the studio is currently preparing “the entire Rocky collection ” for Blu-ray in time for the holidays. So far only the first and the last Rocky films ('Rocky' and 'Rocky Balboa') have been released on Blu-ray.

In an announcement to retailers, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has disclosed that they will release 'Fast & Furious' on Blu-ray on July 28, day-and-date with the DVD. Not a week since the release of 'Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection' and 'Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy', these Blu-ray movie sets have dropped in price at Amazon to $69.99 and $32.99, respectively, making them just about $11 per movie. There is no information about how long these prices will last, so anyone interested should order now.

The Criterion Collection has officially announced two titles for release on Blu-ray on August 18: Akira Kurosawa's 'Kagemusha' and Jacques Tati's 'Playtime'. Both films will be presented in 1080p 1.85:1 video with stereo lossless audio (DTS-HD Master Audio for 'Kagemusha', uncompressed for 'Playtime') and optional English subtitles, and will include all the bonus features present in their respective DVD editions.

Eagle Rock Entertainment is releasing 'The 70th Birthday Concert' from John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and Friends on June 29. This concert was recorded at Liverpool's King's Dock on 19 July 2003. During an advance screening of the final two episodes of season 7 of the hit TV show '24', executive producer and director Jon Cassar had a suggestion for the fans: pick it up on Blu-ray Disc. “You really get to see the detail,” he said. “I work very hard on these shows. I want to see them the best way I can. I still have a huge DVD collection, but I'm a big Blu-ray renter. I don't see anything now anymore without seeing it on Blu-ray.”

Today on all gaming sites and forums, there was huge excitement and debate over a set of fuzzy pictures of the supposed outer shell of a redesigned, slimmer PS3, allegedly taken by factory workers on a cell phone and then leaked. This has reignited the speculations about a new console version coming in the near future.

The German Federal Association for Audiovisual Media has released the figures for the home video market in the first quarter of 2009 and they show impressive results. Blu-ray units sold were 1.1 million, or 402% more than the same period last year. In just three months, German consumers have bought two-thirds of all the discs that were sold in the whole of 2008.

Amazon's Gold Box deal-of-the-day is a special offer on 'High School Musical 1-3', which can currently be bought (until the day is out, while supplies last) for only $51.95, or just about $17 each title. Many Blu-ray enthusiasts will scoff at the offer, but this can make a nice gift for the end of the school year and a way to introduce youngsters to the benefits of hidef.

A whopping 92% of the participants in a blind test recently held by the CEDIA association picked Blu-ray over a hidef iTunes movie download. Twenty-five participants were asked to look at two identical 40-inch LCD displays showing the movie 'Twilight', one from an iTunes 720p download and the other from 1080p Blu-ray. Participants didn't know which display was Blu-ray.

According to a study by the NPD Group, 88% of consumer home entertainment dollars go toward DVD and Blu-ray Disc purchases and rentals. Each US consumer spent an average of $25 per month on all types of home entertainment. Most of that money, 63%, was spent on DVD purchases; 7% was spent on BD purchases; and 18% went to DVD and BD rentals.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Sea Monsters 3D' to Blu-ray on August 11th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This IMAX film has previously been released in its 2D version on Blu-ray, but is being released now in its 3D version (the 2D version will also be included). Kenmec Mechanical Engineering, an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider based in Taiwan that recently started making Blu-ray players, has stated that it expects to sell 60,000 players under the company's own brand in Taiwan, as well as ship another 150,000 units to ODM clients mainly in Europe and the US during this year.

The Centre National de la Cinématographie has published sales figures for the home video market in France during the first quarter of 2009. They show that 1.08 million units of BD movies were sold in that period, up 211.8% from the same period last year. Revenue increased 165.9%, for 24.04 million euros.

Logitech has finally released one of the accessories most requested by owners of PS3 consoles and Logitech Harmony universal remotes: an infrared-to-Bluetooth adapter with which to operate the PS3 with a Harmony remote. Suggested retail price has been set at $59.99. It is available to buy now in North America, and will come to Europe in July.
