The hugely successful theatrical release of '
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' further boosted '
Transformers', which was the top-selling Blu-ray for the week ended June 28 (up from number 4 the week before), according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. '
Gran Torino' remained strong at second place in its third week.
Here is the Blu-ray top 10 (previous-week ranking in parenthesis):
- (4) Transformers
- (1) Gran Torino
- • The Matrix
- • Inkheart
- • Confessions of a Shopaholic
- (3) Ghostbusters
- (5) Taken
- (2) Friday the 13th
- • The Code
- • The Pink Panther 2
'
The Matrix', released separately on Blu-ray on March 31 (and previously in October 2008 as part of the '
Ultimate Matrix Collection'), was propelled to number 3 of the charts by aggressive pricing at several retailers.
The overall top-selling title on disc, '
Confessions of a Shopaholic', only got fifth place for Blu-ray.
Regarding market share, the biggest percentage for a new release was for the direct-to-video thriller '
The Code', starring Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas, which got 15% of its sales from Blu-ray. '
Inkheart' got 13%, a respectable percentage for a family title, probably thanks to the inclusion of a DVD and digital copy with the Blu-ray. '
The Pink Panther 2' and 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' got 7% and 5%, respectively. 'Transformers' had a BD market share of 21%.
