Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Beverly Hills Cop, Le Mans Blu-ray Announced

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced two action movies from its catalog for Blu-ray release in May. On May 17, the studio will release the Eddie Murphy hit Beverly Hills Cop; and a week later, the racing classic Le Mans, starring Steve McQueen. Also, on May 10, Top Gun will be re-released as a BD/DC combo pack.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy Limited Extended Blu-ray Beckons

The highly-awaited extended version of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy hasn't been formally announced yet, but it definitely is coming closer, as it just came up for preorder. List price is set at $119.98. Reportedly, this limited deluxe set will include nine special features DVDs with "over 26 hours of spellbinding behind-the-moviemaking material including the rare Costa Botes documentaries."

Speaking with the French magazine Les années laser, Sylvie Collombet, chief of marketing of Paramount France, revealed two major titles that are on the studio's slate for Blu-ray release: Once Upon a Time in the West and Le Mans will come out in June, and Breakfast at Tiffany's in September.

Star Wars 3D in Theaters Starting February 2012

Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox have officially announced the 3D theatrical re-release of the Star Wars movies, starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace, which is slated for February 10, 2012. No mention has been made of the 3D Blu-ray release that is likely to take place eventually. Note that Star Wars: The Complete Saga has been announced on 2D Blu-ray for September 2011.

BBC Home Video, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, has announced Being Human: Season 3 for Blu-ray release on May 3, including all eight episodes from the third season of this offbeat BBC comedy/drama. In this season, the heroes (a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost) move to Wales in their efforts to live like normal human beings, but the net is rapidly closing in. Meanwhile, they must do all they can to help a teenage vampire to control his bloodlust before it is too late.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment, in conjunction with ABKCO Music and Records, has revealed the official details for Alejandro Jodorowski's cult movies El Topo and The Holy Mountain, which as previously reported, are slated for a Blu-ray release on April 26. Megamind was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended February 27, according to Nielsen VideoScan, even though it was released on Friday and thus only had three days' worth of sales counting for the week. The title with the highest Blu-ray share was All-Star Superman, with 53% of its total sales coming from the high-definition SKU.

Alliance to Continue Distributing Miramax Titles in Canada

Alliance Films and Miramax announced that they have renewed their long-standing film distribution partnership. Under the agreement, Alliance has extended its distribution rights in all media (including Blu-ray) in Canada. Alliance will also distribute all of Miramax's new films in Canada, starting with John Madden's The Debt and the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.
