For the week ending May 8,
The Green Hornet finished on top of the Blu-ray sales chart with 50% of total sales coming from the Blu-ray format. There was time when a 50% stake would make headlines for Blu-ray, but now it has become a weekly occurrence. Three-time Blu-ray weekly sales champ,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 fell one spot to number two, but had a strong 42% share for blu-ray. Bowing at No. 5 on the overall sales chart and No. 3 on the Blu-ray sales results was Vince Vaughn's comedy
The Dilemma with 25% of total package media sales.
The Green Hornet provided a boost to what appears to be an unimpressive sales week. Box office totals for theatrical releases in the first quarter of 2011 lagged behind the results from 2010, and that will directly affect overall package media sales in the next two months. A very strong theatrical release in the Summer months is raising expectations for record Blu-ray sales in the last quarter of 2011.
