Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Warner Home Video has announced the technical specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Gigi' and 'An American in Paris', which are both due to hit store shelves on March 31st. 'Gigi' will come on a BD-25 and feature 2.40:1 1080p video accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. 'An American in Paris' will come on a BD-50 and feature 1.33:1 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a 1.0 Dolby Digital soundtrack.

BFI has announced that they will bring 'GAZWRX: The Films of Jeff Keen' to Blu-ray on February 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. His 45 films will be spread across a three-disc set (one Blu-ray and two DVDs) that will feature nine hours of restored and remastered compositions from the filmmaker.

PBS has announced that they will bring the concert '3 Mo' Divas' to Blu-ray on May 12th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The concert, which was filmed at Denver Center Theater Company in Denver, CO last July, will be broadcast in March. No technical specs or special features have been announced at this time.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the computer animated feature 'Bolt' to Blu-ray on March 22nd, two days before the DVD release. This is the first new release Blu-ray title to be released before the DVD, and will surely be a test for future product release schedules.

In the heat of the format war, a great deal of emphasis was placed on player prices, an area where the rival HD DVD format had somewhat of an advantage. Highlighting that advantage was the Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD Add-on, which came packaged with one of the most visually pleasing films of that year - Peter Jackson's 'King Kong'. While the player was a bust, the disc was visually stunning, especially with the restrictions of the format. Today, 'King Kong' gets released on Blu-ray, and finally receives the treatment it deserves.

Despite concerns of corporate health, Sony has moved ahead with Blu-ray plans and have opened a Blu-ray Disc production facility in Shanghai, China. This, the fourth such Sony owned Blu-ray production facility in the world, is operating in a 130,000 square foot facility, employing 200 full time workers, and capable of outputting 500,000 discs per month.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring Jet Li's 'The One' and John Carpenter's 'Ghosts of Mars' to Blu-ray on March 31st. Video for both of these titles will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. As will all Sony titles, both will be BD-Live enabled, allowing users to download additional content using a BD-Live Blu-ray Disc player.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Punisher: Warzone' to Blu-ray on March 17th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, though you can expect a 1080p AVC video encode along with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Kenmec Mechanical Engineering, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of automation and flat panel display equipment, has announced that they will soon begin selling Blu-ray Disc players on an ODM basis at roughly 2000 units a month. In December, the company sent players to Europe for certification, expect to be fully certified in early February.

The Criterion Collection has announced that they will bring 'The Wages of Fear' and 'In the Realm of the Sense' to Blu-ray on April 24th ('Realm' is day-and-date with the DVD release). Technical specs have yet to be announced, but you can expect to see 1080p AVC video (in the film's original aspect ratio) as well as some sort of lossless or uncompressed soundtrack ('Realm' is confirmed to have a Mono PCM soundtrack).

Over at the official Stargate website - StargateHub.com - MGM Home Entertainment is holding a "Stargate Atlantis Fan's Choice" vote where fans of the show can vote for their favorite Stargate episode, which will then be released on Blu-ray this summer. It is believed that sales of the (which will contain the top five episodes) Blu-ray will determine if the entire seasons will see Blu-ray release.

After an exciting CES 2009 - drooling over the latest Blu-ray hardware and software advancements - we are back to reality: Blu-ray releases. The latest sales data indicates that for the week following Christmas, Blu-ray took a record 16% of the home media disc market. Looks like all those new Blu-ray Disc player owners ran to stores to build a high definition library.

Monster Music has announced that they will bring the new Ludacris album 'Theater of Mind' to Blu-ray this February, day-and-date with the DVD release.
