Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Hellraiser Puzzle Box Coming As Well

In an early announcement to retailers, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the 'Hellraiser Puzzle Box' to Blu-ray on April 21st, day-and-date with the Blu-ray release of 'Hellraiser'. The three-disc box will feature the Blu-ray release of 'Hellraiser', along with the 20th Anniversary Edition DVDs of 'Hellraiser' and 'Hellbound: Hellraiser II'.

Blu-ray Increases Market Penetration

In the most recent issue of Home Media Magazine, new Nielsen First Alert data is now reporting that Blu-ray sales represented 17% of the home video market for the week ending January 25th, a new record for the high definition format. The previous record of 16% was reached only a few weeks ago, and makes for some very impressive results for the month of January.

Watchmen Animated Features Announced (UPDATED)

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the animated double feature 'Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood' to Blu-ray on March 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. These two stories appear in the Watchmen comics, but were left out of the upcoming theatrical release, so if you want the complete Watchmen story, this is a must own release.

The Spirit Coming to Blu-ray

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed in the latest issue of Home Media Magazine that they will bring the Frank Miller's 'The Spirit' to Blu-ray on April 14th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs have yet to be announced, but you can expect to see AVC video accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Indiana Jones Trilogy Coming This Year to Blu-ray

During a recent PowerPoint presentation given by the folks at Lucasfilm, it was revealed that the 'Indiana Jones Trilogy' would be released on Blu-ray by the end of the year. The original post (with images of the presentation) has since been removed, but like all things on the Internet, word has traveled fast, so we're passing on the news to you, along with a pinch of salt.

In an early announcement to retailers, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring 'Sin City: Unrated, Recut, and Extended' to Blu-ray on April 21st. This two disc set will feature both the theatrical and recut versions of the film in stunning 1080p AVC accompanied by a lossless audio soundtrack.

Big; Something About Mary Get Confirmed

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the animated family film 'The Tale of Despereaux' to Blu-ray on March 17th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p (a first for a Universal animated film) accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

'The Bourne Trilogy' represents one of the most popular action film franchises in the past decade. Oddly enough, its not the use of high tech computer effects or overly-stylized fighting, but rather the lack thereof which makes these films standout. There are very few in the world who could honestly see themselves in such a unique character as Jason Bourne, but his struggle to discover his own identity and purpose is something that many can identify with.

No Country for Old Men Sees Re-Release

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will re-release the Oscar-award winning film 'No Country for Old Men' for Blu-ray on April 7th as a two-disc collector's edition, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. This release will presumably feature the same 2.35:1 1080p AVC video encode, but with a new 24-bit 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (the original release included a 24-bit PCM soundtrack).

Warner Specs More April 7th Releases

Warner Home Video has revealed the technical specs and special features for six more of the ten titles set to be released on April 7th. While some of you may be disappointed with the lack of extras on these releases (I'm not), you have welcome the fact that all the titles feature a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. It appears that Warner's use of Dolby Digital may be (finally) coming to an end.

'Winged Migration' was initially announced to retailers some time ago, but this time it gets an official date. Both films will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Dr. Strangelove Back on Blu-ray Release List

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb' to Blu-ray as a 45th Anniversary edition on June 16th. Originally announced for release earlier this year, it is now officially back on track for a summer date. Video will be presented in 1.66:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the documentary 'Arctic Tale' to Blu-ray on April 21st. This family focused documentary tells the story of polar bears and walruses in the deep arctic north. Featuring a voice over by Queen Latifah, the film will be presented in 1080p video accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Circle of Iron Announced for Blu-ray

Blue Underground has announced that they will bring the Bruce Lee film 'Circle of Iron' (also known as The Silent Flute) to Blu-ray on May 19th. Before his death, the famed martial arts film star began to develop the film along with his friend and student James Coburn and Oscar-winning screenwriter Stirling Silliphant. Five years after his death, the film was finally completed, with David Carradine playing lead.

New Star Trek Blu-ray Rumors

Our good friend Bill Hunt over at The Digital Bits has some exciting news regarding the rumored upcoming Blu-ray releases of the original Star Trek films, as well as the television series. As previously rumored, Paramount Home Entertainment will release Star Trek I-VI as a "Kirk/Spock" box set in May around the theatrical release of the new Star Trek film.

This is most likely a database error, but its from the studio, so we'll run it until we hear differently. Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Watchmen' - yes, that 'Watchmen'; the motion picture directed by Zack Snyder - to Blu-ray on March 3rd, with no DVD release planned. See what I'm talking about? This is either the craziest release move ever to come out of Hollywood, or someone jumped the gun over at the Warner's press office.

The disc features all 12 chapters of the 'Watchmen' saga as a "motion comic" spanning over five hours in length. Video will be presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Summit Home Entertainment has announced that they will release the hit teen vampire film 'Twilight' for Blu-ray on March 21st exclusively at Best Buy and Target, day-and-date with the DVD release. The Blu-ray will then be sent to all other retailers on May 5th. Technical specs for this release have not been announced at this time.
