Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Fiddler on the Roof Blu-ray Clips

Warner Announces Superman Motion Picture Anthology UPDATE: Pre-order Available

Warner Home Video has announced The Superman Motion Picture Anthology for Blu-ray release on June 7. The 8-disc collection features all five Superman movies (Superman, Superman II, Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, and Superman Returns) with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound (Stereo for Superman IV). Also, for the first time on BD, the theatrical version of Superman II is presented in addition to the already released Richard Donner cut, while the original Superman movie is presented in both theatrical and extended versions.

FUNimation Spring-Summer Blu-ray Slate

Between April and early July, FUNimation Entertainment is set to release nearly twenty Blu-ray titles. They span the whole gamut of the anime genre, from new releases to classics such as Yu Yu Hakusho and competitively priced re-releases, to more Fullmetal Alchemist and Dragon Ball Z.

Blu-ray Sales, March 21-27: Yogi Can't Steal Tourist's Picnic (Updated)

The Tourist was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended March 27. According to Nielsen VideoScan, it narrowly surpassed Yogi Bear. The Fighter dropped to fourth place. Regarding Blu-ray sales percentages, The Tourist got 34% of its total sales from Blu-ray; Yogi Bear got 28%.

Viewer Attention Higher when Watching 3D Blu-ray

According to a recent study, people are 12% more attentive when they are watching Blu- ray 3D compared to 2D BD. The test was commissioned by the Blu-ray Disc Association and performed by Mindlab International in southern UK. 3D Blu-ray viewers are 29% more attentive than when watching 2D, standard-definition DVD. 3D BD also was found to trigger a higher emotional response than DVD.

Justin Bieber Blu-ray Announced

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Justin Bieber: Never Say Never for Blu-ray release on May 13 (a Friday), on a BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. This movie follows Bieber's journey from his early years to his rise from break-out internet sensation to global superstar, culminating in a sold-out show at the famed Madison Square Garden. Although it was shown theatrically in 3D, no 3D Blu-ray version has been announced.

Two classic Bob Dylan documentaries have been announced for release on Blu-ray on April 26: Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back from Docurama Films The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan Live at the Newport Festival 1963-1965 from Legacy/Columbia. Each provides a look into into Dylan and his pivotal role as an American artist in the 1960s, newly remastered in high definition.

Star Wars Blu-ray Dates Move Forward

The three Star Wars Blu-ray box sets, Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Star Wars: Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy, originally slated for release on September 27, will now hit store shelves on September 16. This Friday date will allow retailers to hold all sorts of launch parties.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Sanctum for Blu-ray release on June 7, in 2D Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray versions. This action adventure film, executive produced by James Cameron and conceived and shot in 3D, follows a team of cave divers on an ill-fated expedition into the heart of one of the world's largest and most remote and treacherous caverns.

Warner Home Video has announced two science fiction movies for release on Blu-ray on July 27: Red Planet, an adventure about humankind's first mission to the mysterious Red Planet; and Paul W.S. Anderson's Soldier, in which mammoth "crawler" vehicles roam, planetary outcasts survive amid the jetsam of Earth's past and technology is almost beyond human control.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced The Big Bang for a May 24, 2011 Blu-ray release. This Tony Krantz-directed Thriller, which promises "murder, money, sex, and particle physics!" features an all-star cast, including Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, William Fichtner, Robert Maillet, Delroy Lindo, Sienna Guillory, Autumn Resser, Snoop Dogg, and Sam Elliott.

Das Boot Sails onto Blu-ray

Sony Pictures has announced Das Boot for Blu-ray release on June 7, 2011. Director Wolfgang Petersen's epic World War II Submarine Drama -- told from the German perspective -- was nominated for six Academy Awards in 1982, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Effects/Sound Effects Editing, and Best Sound. Das Bot's Blu-ray release will be "digitally restored and fully remastered" and be presented in a 208-minute director's cut.

There was much trepidation when Tangled 3D was about to open in theaters. After the relative commercial disappointment of The Princess and the Frog, concerns were raised about the viability of the animated fairytale as a whole. However, the reimagining of the Rapunzel was a reassuring success for the Mouse House, with nearly $200 million in domestic box office.

The Digital Bits has the scoop on the release details of Ben-Hur, set for Blu-ray release next fall. The film has been newly restored at a resolution of 6K from the original 65mm camera elements. Apart from all previous DVD special features, this two-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition will include a reproduction of the personal diary that Charlton Heston kept during the production, complete with personal photos and his own sketches, as well as Charlton Heston & Ben-Hur: A Personal Journey, a new documentary (in HD) on Heston's experiences during the making of the film.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Legend for Blu-ray release on May 31. This Ridley Scott fantasy film starring Tom Cruise as a forest dweller who must defeat the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) will be presented in an Ultimate Edition BD, featuring two versions of the movie: the 114-minute director's cut and the 94-minute theatrical cut.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Breaking Bad: The Complete Third Season for Blu-ray release on June 7, shortly before season 4 starts airing. This 3-disc set will include all 13 episodes of the third season of this comedy-drama, which won two 2010 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Bryan Cranston and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Aaron Paul.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced three catalog movies starring Adam Sandler for Blu-ray release on June 7: Billy Madison, Bulletproof and Happy Gilmore. All three had been released in 2007 on the defunct HD DVD format. They had come out on BD in Europe in late 2010.

No Song of the South Blu-ray in the Cards

During the latest annual meeting of Shareholders of The Walt Disney Company, a shareholder asked about a Blu-ray release of Song of the South for its 65th anniversary. Once again, the reply from Disney CEO Robert Iger was that, even though they do consider that movie from time to time, "it wouldn't be the right thing for the company to do" because there are elements in the movie that wouldn't "feel right to a number of people today."

The Misfits Blu-ray Coming Up

According to retailer information, MGM Home Entertainment, in conjunction with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, will release The Misfits on Blu-ray on May 10. This 1961 drama, directed by John Huston, featured the final film perfomances of movie stars Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe.
