From Walt Disney Studios, 3D Diamond Editions of Disney's The Lion King (1994, Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff)
and Beauty and the Beast (1991, Gary Trousdale, Kirk Wise) are available now for pre-order on Amazon. The Lion King is being released in three different editions: a 2D Blu-ray Combo Pack Diamond Edition, a 4-disc 3D Diamond Edition, and an 8-disc The Lion King Trilogy edition that includes The Lion King
2: Simba's Pride (1998, Darrell Rooney, Rob LaDuca) and The Lion King 1˝ (2004, Bradley
Raymond) direct-to-video features. El Rey León, a Spanish version of the 2D Diamond edition, will also be available.
In addition to that, both English and Spanish 2D versions are up for pre-order in alternate DVD packaging editions. Special features and full specifications for each are not yet disclosed.
Amazon is also offering a $8 off coupon if you pre-order any version of the The Lion King on Blu-ray (including the 3D and The Lion King Trilogy) alongside a wide selection of Disney Blu-ray Combo Packs. All three versions of The Lion King will street on October 4th, 2011.
Update: Disney has just announced that the all new 3D version of The Lion King will be released in theaters on September 16, 2011. The two-week, 3D-only presentation is a planned wide domestic release—the biggest since the film's 1994 debut—and the film's first-ever 3D release. (5/27/11)
