This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

The Hobbit Blu-rays Officially Announced and Detailed

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced and detailed both the standard Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack releases of director Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Both versions of the theatrical cut of the film are set to feature DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround, and arrive on Blu-ray on March 19th.

Reality Blu-ray

Italian label 01 Distribution will release on Blu-ray director Matteo Garrone's Reality (2012), starring Aniello Arena, Loredana Simioli and Nando Paone. The preliminary release date set by 01 Distribution is March 20th. In the U.S., Oscilloscope Laboratories is in charge with the film's theatrical distribution.

BBFC Confirm 18 Certificate For Maniac

Metrodome Distribution have informed us that it has been confirmed by the BBFC that Franck Khalfoun's Maniac has not been cut back from its original Fright Fest reel and therefore has been certified as an 18. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Official Midnight Screening selection.

For the week of February 5th, Paramount Pictures is bringing the dark drama Flight to Blu-ray. The film marks director Robert Zemeckis' return to live-action filmmaking for the first time since 2000's Cast Away, and Zemeckis demonstrates that his eye for crisp staging and narrative momentum haven't gone to seed during his years in the Polar Express/Beowulf/A Christmas Carol wilderness.

Studio Ghibli's From Up on Poppy Hill

International distributor Walt Disney Pictures has released a theatrical trailer for acclaimed Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli's next breathtaking film, From Up on Poppy Hill. Written by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by his son, Goro Miyazaki, the coming-of-age story is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on March 15th. A WDHE Blu-ray release is expected to follow later this year.

The Burning and The Town That Dreaded Sundown Announced

Warner France has revealed that it is planning to bring to Blu-ray Roman Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), starring Jack MacGowran, Roman Polanski, Alfie Bass, and Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice (1971), starring Dirk Bogarde, Romolo Valli, and Mark Burns.

Twilight Time has announced an updated release schedule covering the next several months. For the first time, Twilight Time will be handling distribution of a Fox title not officially on the Twilight Time label, without this release being limited to 3000 units.

Cloud Atlas: No Official Release Date Yet

Warner Bros. has reached out to Blu-ray.com to help clarify details surrounding the Blu-ray release of Cloud Atlas. Currently, no official release date has been set or announced, and rumors of a June street date remain unconfirmed. The studio will be unveiling its plans for Cloud Atlas in the near future, though, so date and product details will be available soon.

On February 3, 2013 the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will take the field for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. 30 days after The Big Game, on March 5th, NFL Films and Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment will release on Blu-ray Super Bowl XLVII Champions.

The UK branch of Twentieth Century Fox has revealed that it is planning to bring to Blu-ray two classic war films: John Sturges' The Great Escape (1963), starring Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, and Franklin J. Schaffner's Patton (1970), starring George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Stephen Young. The preliminary street date for these upcoming releases is June 3rd.

Cohen Media Group today announced the arrival of the Cohen Film Collection, a collection of rare cinematic gems, which will be meticulously restored. The Cohen Film Collection (formerly The Rohauer Library), will include more than 700 films which will undergo complete digital restoration so that the best possible versions of these historic films are available. Many of these films will join the Collection on Blu-ray and DVD.
