This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Oscilloscope Pictures will release on Blu-ray director Andrea Arnold's (Fish Tank, Red Road) Wuthering Heights (2011), starring Kaya Scodelario and Oliver Milburn. The film won Golden Osella Award for Best Cinematography (Robbie Ryan) at the Venice Film Festival. Street date is April 23rd.

In anticipation of the Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Combo Pack release of director Ben Affleck's Argo, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a 28-minute video feature online: "Argo: Declassified," a special in-depth look at the real events that inspired the Academy Award-nominated film. Argo arrives on Blu-ray on February 19th.

For the week of February 12th, Metro Goldwyn Mayer is bringing Skyfall to Blu-ray. The latest installment in the venerable James Bond franchise netted the studio a pretty penny - over $1 billion worldwide and counting - and to be sure, the movie offers Bond fans all the genre tropes they've come to expect, from sultry femme fatales, to delightfully overblown action sequences, to a sneering, flamboyant Big Bad.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Cartoon Network have announced the Blu-ray releases of Adventure Time: The Complete First Season and The Complete Second Season. Both seasons of Pendleton Ward's animated fantasy/comedy series arrive on Blu-ray on June 4th.

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese will executive produce Luc Besson's (Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element) latest project, Malavita (2013), starring Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film's U.S. distributor, Relativity Media, plans to have it in theaters across the country in October.

Walt Disney has released a new trailer for director Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful via the studio's "Find Your Way to Oz" app. The film's latest trailer reveals quite a bit of previously unseen footage from the film, which tells the origin story of L. Frank Baum's beloved Emerald City wizard. Raimi's prequel makes its U.S. theatrical debut on March 8th.

Independent distributors Shout Factory have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Dennis Hopper's The Hot Spot (1990), starring Don Johnson, Virginia Madsen, and Jennifer Connelly. A release date and exact technical specs are yet to be revealed by the distributors.

For the week that ended on February 3rd, Sony Pictures Entertainment had the top Blu-ray and overall package media sales with its release of Hotel Transylvania. This CGI comedy, which combines the talents of Adam Sandler and noted animation producer/director Genndy Tartakovsky, took in a worldwide box-office haul of $326 million when it premiered theatrically last September.
