This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

For the week of March 26th, Disney and Touchstone Home Entertainment are bringing Lincoln to Blu-ray. Director Steven Spielberg's drama has received near-universal acclaim for Daniel Day-Lewis' performance as the title character, and this is one time where the accolades aren't overdoing it. For a man who redefines himself with every film role, Lincoln ranks as one of Day-Lewis' most fascinating creations.

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially announced the Blu-ray release of three additional Disney Animation 2-Movie Collections: Atlantis: The Lost Empire / Atlantis: Milo's Return, Lilo & Stitch / Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch and The Emperor's New Groove / Kronk's New Groove. Each 3-disc Special Edition set features digitally restored high definition picture and sound, and makes its Blu-ray debut on June 11th.

Appleseed XIII Complete Series Blu-ray

FUNimation Entertainment has announced the Complete Series release of Appleseed XIII, the 13-episode CGI anime series from Production I.G, Jinni's Animation Studios and director Takayuki Hamana. Appleseed XIII arrives on Blu-ray via 5-disc standard and 5-disc Limited Edition BD/DVD combos, both of which street on June 4th.

Section23, Houston-based distributor of Maiden Japan anime, has announced the 4-volume Blu-ray release of Mobile Police Patlabor TV, the classic 47-episode, Naoyuki Yoshinaga-directed series originally broadcast from 1989-90. Complete technical specifications have yet to be revealed, but both Japanese and English audio are included. The first volume of Mobile Police Patlabor TV streets on July 16th.

Blu-ray Sales, March 11-17: The Guardians Rise to Number One

For the week that ended on March 17th, family fare dominated the home media market. DreamWorks Home Entertainment's Rise of the Guardians scored the top position on the Blu-ray and overall package lists. This CGI-adventure did not perform as strongly as the studio might have hoped when it premiered last November; it grossed only $103 million domestically, despite an estimated production budget of $145 million.
