This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Magnolia Pictures has detailed the upcoming Blu-ray release of writer/director Don Coscarelli's John Dies at the End, an adaptation of David Wong's audacious trans-genre horror novel of the same name. The film stars Rob Mayes, Chase Williamson, Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown, and arrives on Blu-ray on April 2nd.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is bringing director Russell Mulcahy and screenwriter David Koepp's The Shadow to Blu-ray on June 4th. The action-packed adaptation of the 1930s pulp radio serial stars Alec Baldwin as playboy-by-day, vigilante-by-night hero Lamont Cranston, John Lone as the villainous Shiwan Khan, Penelope Ann Miller as a telepathic socialite and Ian McKellen as her father, a War Department scientist.

HBO has released a second full trailer for the upcoming third season of Game of Thrones. The first episode of the critically acclaimed, enormously popular fantasy series' third season, "Valar Dohaeris," premieres on Sunday, March 31st at 9pm. Criterion Announces June Titles

The Criterion Collection has announced five titles for Blu-ray release in June. On June 11, the studio will release Ingmar Bergman's Wild Strawberries (1957). On June 18th, it will release William Cameron Menzies' Things to Come (1936), František Vlácil's Marketa Lazarová (1967), and Fred Newmeyer and Sam Taylor's Safety Last! (1923). And on June 25th, it will release Claude Lanzmann's Shoah (1985).

The British Film Institute has officially announced its upcoming Dual Format edition of John Krish's (The Elephant Will Never Forget, I Think They Call Him John) Captured (1959). Commissioned as a military training film and previously only shown to a highly restricted audience of military officials, Captured will be available for purchase on April 15th.

Despite the film's near-universal financial success - to date, it has grossed more than $1 billion - An Unexpected Journey did not find the critical support bestowed upon director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
