This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

For the week of April 30th, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment is bringing Silver Linings Playbook to Blu-ray. This comedy-drama found success with its portrait of two unstable outcasts who realize that they might be soul mates; director David O. Russell's direction is as confident and exciting as it was in his Three Kings and The Fighter, and he gets terrific performances Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper.

BDA: Decision on 4K Discs Coming Up

The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has confirmed that it is considering different format extensions that could enable 4K content playback on Blu-ray. The confirmation was issued in a statement which was sent to CNET. A final recommendation on the future of 4K Blu-ray discs is expected later this year.

Paramount and CBS Home Entertainment have released a First Look trailer for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4, and revealed the special features that will be included on the 6-disc set. Like previous seasons, the Blu-ray edition will feature a remastered 1080p video presentation, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track and more than 20-hours of extras. Season 4 streets on July 30th.

The World 3-D Film Expo III will be held at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California, September 6-15, 2013. The festival pays tribute to the 60th anniversary of the "Golden Age" of 3-D, with screenings of Hondo, House of Wax, Kiss Me Kate, It Came From Outer Space and even later 3-D films, such as Jaws 3-D. Director Quentin Tarantino's profanely comic adventure is one of his most successful features; it made over $420 million worldwide and received five Oscar nominations, winning two for Tarantino's original script and for Christoph Waltz's performance as Dr. King Schultz.
