This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Dead Poets Society 4K Blu-ray

20th Century Studios is preparing a combo pack release of Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society (1989), starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Gale Hansen. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 29.

Entertainment One has acquired the distribution rights to director Nimrod Antal's (Kontroll) highly anticipated 3D film Metallica Through the Never. Entertainment One will distribute the film in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

The UK branch of Warner Brothers has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray directors Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen's Sammy's Great Escape (2012). The release will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on July 22.

Sonar Entertainment and Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Eve of Destruction on July 16th. Directed by Robert Lieberman and starring Steven Weber, Treat Williams, Christina Cox, and Aleks Paunovic, the fight for survival continues in the second disaster film in the five-part doomsday series, which originally aired on ReelzChannel in April 2013.

Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space Blu-ray Detailed

BBC Home Entertainment has officially announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space. The 4-part debut of the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) was not only the first of the series to be produced in color, it was shot on 16mm film, which allows for a true high definition remaster. Spearhead from Space streets on August 13th, and includes lossless audio and several extras.

Independent distributors Hen's Tooth Video have announced that they will release a combo pack edition of Richard Rush's Hells Angels on Wheels (1967), starring Jack Nicholson, Adam Roarke, Sabrina Scharf, and John Garwood. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is September 3th.

To celebrate the classic film's 75th anniversary, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is re-releasing The Wizard of Oz for an exclusive one-week 3D IMAX theatrical engagement on September 20th, then bringing the newly remastered presentation to stores and online retailers via a trio of Blu-ray releases: a 5-disc 3D Collector's Edition, a 2-disc 3D combo, and a single-disc 2D Blu-ray. All three versions street on October 1st.

Home Entertainment has announced the 3D Blu-ray release of André de Toth's House of Wax (1953), which stars Vincent Price, Frank Lovejoy, Phyllis Kirk, Carolyn Jones, Paul Picerni and a young Charles Bronson. The 60th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release arrives on October 1st, and features 3D and 2D presentations minted from a 4K scan and restoration, a new featurette and the original 1933 film, Mystery of the Wax Museum.

Independent British distributors Network have announced that they are restoring the popular British TV Series The Professionals (1977-1983). Created by Brian Clemens, The Professionals star Gordon Jackson, Martin Shaw, and Lewis Collins.
