Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Stargate Continuum Coming to Blu-ray

MGM Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the direct-to-video movie 'Stargate: Continuum' to Blu-ray on July 29th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Based on the popular Stargate SG-1 TV series, film will be presented in 1.78:1 1080p video and accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Soundtrack.

10,000 B.C. Coming to Blu-ray in June

Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the action blockbuster '10,000 B.C.' for Blu-ray on June 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras include an alternative ending and additional scenes not seen in theaters.

Pioneer Readies LX71 for Europe

Pioneer Electronics has announced that they will release their BDP-LX71 Blu-ray player for the European market this summer to replace the existing BDP-LX70. The BonusView (Profile v1.1) player will feature the latest technological advancements to improve both performance and stability over the existing model.

Moody Blues Coming to Blu-ray

Image Entertainment has announced that they will bring the concert 'The Moody Blues: Lovely to See You' to Blu-ray on July 8th. The concert, which was performed in June of 2005 during their world tour, was shot entirely in high definition. Video will be presented as 1.78:1 1080i VC-1 accompanied by a 24-bit 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. The lone supplemental feature is a 2005 interview with the band.

Natural Born Killers Announced (Updated)

Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the Oliver Stone film 'Natural Born Killers' for Blu-ray on June 10th as a "coffee book" edition. The film, which stars Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis, will be presented in its theatrical form, and not of the four minute longer Director's Cut. Video will be presented as 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Blue Man Group's Megastar Gets Blu-ray Date

Rhino Records has revealed that they will release the previously announced Blue Man Group concert film 'How to Be a Megastar Live!' for Blu-ray on May 13th. Video will be presented as 1.78:1 1080p and be accompanied by a PCM audio for all 22 tracks. Extras include the documentary "Inside the Tube" and two music videos for "I Feel Love" and "Mono".

Details Revealed for The Eye Blu-ray Release

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed the specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'The Eye', due to hit store shelves on June 3rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1080p AVC and accompanied by a 7.1 PCM audio track. Included with the Blu-ray release will be a digital copy of the film for use on your portable media devise.

Fox Announces Point Break for Blu-ray

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will release the Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze film 'Point Break' for Blu-ray on July 1st in special edition form. Video will be presented in 1080p and be accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Extras include numerous deleted scenes, as well a collection of four featurettes.

PS3 Getting DTS-HD Master Audio Support

Everyone knew it was coming, they just didn't know when. Well, now we know: On April 15th, Sony will issue firmware version 2.3, which will add support for the DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) and DTS-HD High Resolution (HR) to the PlayStation 3 (PS3). In combination with the recent BD-Live firmware, this allows the PS3 to play all Blu-ray titles at their optimal functionality.

Blockbuster Goes Blu-ray at All Locations

Blockbuster, the popular video rental chain, has announced that starting this week, they will offer Blu-ray rentals and sales in all of their corporate locations, in both the US and Canada. Previously, Blockbuster only offered Blu-ray in about 1,700 stores nationwide, but with this new announcement, that number will increase to nearly 5,000 retail outlets.

Blu-ray Players Connect to iPhone with BD Touch

NetBlender has announced that they have developed software that connects BD-Live Blu-ray players (such as the Sony Playstation 3) to Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. The software, which has been named "BD Touch", makes use of the network connections of both devices, and allows them to share data.

The Perfect Storm Announced for Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the action hit 'The Perfect Storm' to Blu-ray on July 22nd. This is the latest Warner title that was previously only available in high definition on the now dead HD DVD format, but is now going to be released on Blu-ray. Video will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track. Extras will mirror the HD DVD release with three commentaries, three featurettes, a stills gallery, and theatrical trailer.

Regional Coding added to Movie Database

Ever evolving, we have added the ability to submit whether a Blu-ray title is region free or region locked to our Blu-ray movies database. When you select a title movie title (such as yesterday's release of 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story'), simply click on the "Regional coding" tab and select whether a title is region free or region locked and click "Post comment".

Future Disney/Pixar Animation Projects Announced

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios have announced the future animation line-up for the two studios (Pixar is now wholly owned by Disney). While not all the announced films are are surprises - the Summer release of 'Wall-E' and the upcoming 3-D releases of the popular 'Toy Story' films - we do get a peek at some great previously unannounced films.

Warner Home Video has revealed the specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Batman Begins', which is scheduled to be released on July 8th. The release will come in two flavors: either as a standard Blu-ray or a limited edition Blu-ray gift set. Video will be presented as 1080p VC-1, and audio will come via a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track.

Sony Announces Two New Blu-ray Recorders for Japan

Sony Electronics has announced two new Blu-ray recorders for the Japanese market: the BDZ-A70 and BDZ-T90. Both recorders will feature the ability to read and write both Blu-ray and DVD media, as well as read any CD media. Additionally, both will feature large hard drives - the A70 comes with a 320GB hard drive, the T90 with the larger 500GB hard drive - that the machine can easily record and playback material in the popular AVCHD format.

Firefly Coming to Blu-ray

After some digging, TVShowsonDVD.com has discovered that Fox is planning to extend the upcoming 'Firefly: The Complete Series' DVD set to the Blu-ray format. It still early too early to discuss special features and specs, but being a Fox release, fans can expect a 1080p AVC video experience accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

National Treasure to Feature D-Box Support

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment in conjunction with D-Box Motion Technologies have announced that the upcoming Disney Blu-ray release of 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' will feature support for D-Box Motion systems. This support allows owner of D-Box equipment to "feel" the film via movements programmed and placed on the disc by D-Box technicians.

John Mayer Blu-ray Coming Soon

Musician John Mayer is planning to release a Blu-ray of his concert held last December at Los Angeles's Nokia Theatre. The release, which on track to be released at the end of the summer, currently has no title or set list, but we do know that it will feature tracks from his solo live performance, as well as some from his Trio, which includes drummer Steve Jordan and basist Pino Palladino.

Spanish high definition site PlanetaHD has posted a picture of what may be the next Blu-ray Coffee Book release from Warner Home Video: 'Natural Born Killers'. While very little is known about the release, we do know that it will feature a Dolby TrueHD lossless audio track. No other information has been released at this time.

Grieg Music-Only Blu-ray Coming in April

Surround Records has announced that they will release 'Grieg: Piano Concerto / Symphonic Dances / In Autumn' for Blu-ray on April 25th. The audio was recorded at 24-bit at Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow, from 13th to 15th May 2003 and will be presented using 7.1 DTS Master Audio for a prefect reproduction of the source material.

Sony to Integrate Blu-ray into LCD HDTVs

Ryoji Chubachi, Sony president and Electronics CEO, mentioned in a press conference, held in Taipei on April 3rd, that Sony would add Blu-ray recorders to their popular line of LCD HDTVs. This was seen as necessary to increase global share of Blu-ray products from 20% of the market (the other 80% belonging to DVD) to 50% by the end of this year.

When Microsoft first announced their intentions to back the underdog HD DVD format as the high definition format of the future, many insiders and press alike questioned the motives of the large software company. Microsoft doesn't own any film content to distribute and the one product which could have benefited from a larger capacity disc - the Xbox 360 - had already shipped with only DVD support. Most soon realized that Microsoft never wanted HD DVD to succeed, only to stall adoption of Blu-ray long enough for digital downloads to become a reality.

Men In Black Announced for Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones film 'Men in Black' to Blu-ray on June 17th. While no specs have been announced at this time, expect a 1080p AVC video presentation along with Dolby TrueHD audio track. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release will be a BD-Live trivia game where up to eight people can connect online to test their 'Men in Black' knowledge.
