Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

There Will Be Blood Blu-ray Gets Detailed

Paramount has revealed more details about the Blu-ray release of the Academy Award winning film 'There Will Be Blood.' The studio is promising 1080p video along side Dolby TrueHD audio — video codec information is currently unavailable. In addition, Paramount will be including the exact same set of extras included on the "Collector's Edition" DVD release of 'There Will Be Blood' from earlier this month. Expect the disc to be released on June 3rd.

Cloverfield Blu-ray Gets Detailed

Official specs on the Blu-ray release of the J.J. Abrams-Produced hit film 'Cloverfield' are in from Paramount. As hoped by many, this Blu-ray release will include full 1080p video as well as Dolby TrueHD audio. Video codec information is currently unavailable from Paramount. Additionally, this release features an exclusive Blu-ray-only feature in the so-called "Special Investigation Mode." Sounding much like a trivia track, this feature provides the viewer with tidbits of information on the film as the story unfolds. Additional Special Features....

Warner Announces Pale Rider Blu-ray

In yet another classic western announcement, Warner today detailed their release plans for the Clint Eastwood film 'Pale Rider' on Blu-ray. The film is included in Warner's 85th anniversary Western event that will deliver several classics of the genre to Blu-ray later this year. While exact details of the release haven't yet been announced, expect the standard Warner VC-1 treatment in 1080p. Release is currently scheduled for August 26th.

Paramount Further Details Their Blu-ray Plans

Paramount Home Entertainment today revealed further details about their upcoming Blu-ray plans and in addition to releasing 'Bee Movie', 'Face/Off' and 'Next' on May 20th, they will also be releasing 'Blades of Glory', a quirky comedy about the competetive world of ice skating starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder. While specs and other details about the new titles still are quite scarce, we have been able to confirm that 'Bee Movie', 'Cloverfield', 'There Will Be Blood' and 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' will feature 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.

Paramount Reveals Initial Blu-ray Titles

Paramount Home Entertainment have finally unveiled their long-awaited first wave of catalog and recent hit titles that they'll begin releasing May 20th. "We will have a strong slate of titles for Blu-ray release throughout the year, worldwide, and are enthusiastic about expanding the format's offerings for a broad consumer audience while delivering an experience that goes beyond what viewers love about DVD," said Paramount Home Entertainment President Kelley Avery. Warner to Release Be Kind Rewind on Blu-ray (Updated)

Warner Home Video have revealed that they will bring the Jack Black and Mos Def comedy 'Be Kind Rewind' to Blu-ray on June 17th, a full week before the DVD release. This will be the first time any major studio makes the Blu-ray release available prior to the DVD release, providing an interesting experiment to see how consumers react to only seeing the Blu-ray version on store shelves.

Dark City Gets Blu-ray Treatment

New Line Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the long awaited director's cut of the sci-fi film 'Dark City' to Blu-ray on July 29th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. No technical specs have been announced at this time. Additionally, no extras have been announced at this time, but we do know that many special features have been developed over the past year, which should make for an excellent Blu-ray release.

Sleepwalking Announced for Blu-ray

Starz Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Sleepwalking' to Blu-ray on July 8th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film, which stars Charlize Theron and Nick Stahl, was selected for the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. No technical specs have been announced at this time, and the only special feature to be announced is the featurette "A Mother's Shame, A Family's Pain: The Making of Sleepwalking".

How the West Was Won Remastered for Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring a newly restored and remastered version of the 1962 film 'How the West Was Won' for Blu-ray on August 26th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film is only one of only two narrative feature films produced in the original Cinerama® three-panel widescreen process.

The Secret Coming to Blu-ray This August

Image Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'The Secret' to Blu-ray on August 12th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film stars David Duchovny and Lili Taylor as a married couple who find themselves a part of supernatural happenings. Video will be presented in 1080p accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. No extras have been announced at this time.

Vantage Point Announced for Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the thriller 'Vantage Point' to Blu-ray on July 1st, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras include audio commentary with the director, the featurettes "Coordinating Chaos" and "Writing the Assasination of a President", interviews with the cast and crew, outtakes, and a conversation with Eduardo Noriega.

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control Blu-ray Announced

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the direct-to-video film 'Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control' to Blu-ray on July 1st, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film, which stars Masi Oka from the show "Heroes" and Nate Torrence from the show "Studio 60 on Sunset Strip", is being released to coincide with the theatrical release of the upcoming Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway remark of 'Get Smart'.

Lost, Grey's Anatomy Head to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed that they plan to bring the fourth seasons of both "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" to Blu-ray this year. First up with be 'Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Fourth Season—Expanded', which is set to debut on September 9th, day-and-date with the DVD release. It will feature not only a "beefed up" version of the "Forever Young" episode, but also audio commentary from executive producer/director Rob Corn.

John Mayer's Where the Light Is Blu-ray Details (Updated)

Sony BMG has announced that the John Mayer concert 'Where the Light Is' will be released for Blu-ray on July 1st. Recorded on December 8, 2007 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angelos, the concert features three sets: an acoustic performance, a rare "John Mayer Trio" performance, and one set with the full band.

Earth: The Biography Announced for Blu-ray

BBC Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the documentary 'Earth: The Biography' to Blu-ray on July 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p, with the five episodes (equaling 230 minutes of material) spread across two BD-25 discs. Audio will be presented in its original 2.0 stereo form.

Samsung BD-P1500 Out in June

Samsung has announced that they will release their upcoming Blu-ray player, the BD-P1500, this June. The player, which will be a BonusView (Profile v1.1) player with a future upgrade to BD-Live (Profile v2.0), is the fourth generation Blu-ray player from the longtime Blu-ray supporter. It will be able to output 1080p24 video and decode Dolby TrueHD audio (with DTS-HD HR support to be added at a later date).

Managed Copy: Over Before it Began

Reports claim that when the AACS content protection system gets finalized this summer - a full year after the self-imposed due date - Managed Copy is not expected to be a part of it. AACS is a mandatory protection system used on Blu-ray, and was initially supposed to include the ability to copy Blu-ray movies onto computers - a process that was named Managed Copy.

Netflix to Raise Blu-ray Rental Fees

During a conference call Monday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings commented that his company would raise rental fees later this year for those customers who rent Blu-ray movies. Since the high definition format was introduced, Netflix has been providing Blu-ray rentals at no additional fee to their customers. Now that the format war is over, and rentals are increasing, Hastings feels that it is necessary to charge a premium for high definition rentals.

War Classics on Blu-ray from Fox/MGM

Fox Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment have announced five war film classics coming to Blu-ray on June 3rd. MGM will bring 'Battle of Britain' and 'A Bridge Too Far', while 'The Longest Day', 'Patton', and 'The Sand Pebbles' will come from Fox. Video for titles will be presented in widescreen and accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'ZZ Top: Live from Texas' to Blu-ray on June 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs have been announced at this time, but extras will include the band discussing their evolution over a game of poker, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and a bonus track of the band playing Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady".

Ghost in the Shell 2 Blu-ray Coming to US

Bandai Visual Entertainment has announced that they have acquired the distribution rights to 'Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence' and will bring it to Blu-ray sometime this year. The film has been available on Blu-ray in Japan for some time (distributed there by Disney), and this will be the first time the title will be available outside Japan in high definition.

Korn Concert Announced for Blu-ray

Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced that they will bring the 2004 concert 'Korn: Live at Montreux' to Blu-ray on July 1st. The release is expected to be similar to the DVD release of the same name, which is due to hit store shelves on May 13th. No extras or special features have been announced for this title at this time.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Announced

FUNimation Entertainment and Harmony Gold have announced that they will bring the latest chapter in the Robotech saga, 'Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles' for Blu-ray on September 2nd. The feature-length film was originally produced in high definition, so this will be the first time fans will be able to see the film as originally intended.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will released 'The Bank Job' for Blu-ray on July 15th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs have been announced at this time, but expect the typical 1080p AVC video encode and either a PCM or DTS-HD MA audio track. No extra features have been announced, but with the DVD getting a two disc release, expect plenty.

Blu-ray Sales Up 351%

One of the reasons movie studios are hoping consumers adopt Blu-ray is in order to offset continually declining DVD sales. Since they plateaued three years ago, DVD sales have slowly decreased. The first quarter of this year was no different, showing an overall drop in DVD sales of 1.2% from Q1 2007. However, Blu-ray sales saved the day - just as studios have hoped they would - and when combined with DVD sales resulted in an overall increase in sales of 1% over last year.

Heroes: Seasons One and Two Soaring to Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced they will release 'Heroes: Season One' and 'Heroes: Season Two' for Blu-ray on August 26th. The first season was released on DVD and HD DVD last August, and the second season will be released on Blu-ray day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs or extras have been announced at this time.

Universal Releases Blu-ray Plans

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released their plans for shifting their high definition focus from the defunct HD DVD format to Blu-ray. Beginning in July, Universal plans to release all new home video releases on Blu-ray day-and-date with their DVD releases. The first title receiving such treatment will be the Neil Marshall film 'Doomsday'.
