Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Coming to Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they are bringing the Academy Award-winning film 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' to Blu-ray on July 15th as a coffee book edition, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Video will be presented as 1080p VC-1 and accompanied by a Dolby Digital soundtrack. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will share the same extras.

Third Dragonball Z Release Coming in July

FUNimation has announced that they will release the Dragonball Z movies "The History of Trunks" and "Bardock: The Father of Goku" as a double feature Blu-ray on July 15th. Similar to their previous releases, the films will be presented on a BD-50 using 1080p video and DTS audio. No special features have been announced for 'Dragonball Z: The History of Trunks/Bardock: The Father of Goku' at this time.

Drillbit Taylor Announced for Blu-ray

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Owen Wilson comedy 'Drillbit Taylor' to Blu-ray on July 29th in extended form, four weeks after the DVD release. Fans who decide to wait the extra month for the high definition release will be rewarded with a massive amount of extras, all brought to you in stunning high definition.

The Poseidon Adventure Coming to Blu-ray

Echo Bridge Home Entertainment has announced the next two titles to their budget line of Blu-ray releases. On June 3rd, they will bring the 2005 remake of 'The Poseidon Adventure' and the Daryl Hannah film 'Final Days on Planet Earth'. Video will be presented as 1080i MPEG-2 accompanied by Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks.

New Line Announces Dark City Blu-ray Specs

New Line Home Entertainment has revealed the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the sci-fi cult classic film 'Dark City', due to hit store shelves on July 29th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Both the theatrical and director's cut of the film will be presented on a BD50 using seamless branching. Video will be presented via 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Sub-$300 Blu-ray Player Coming (or Possibly Already Here)

For those of you who frequent our web forums, you may have noticed users reporting seeing a Magnavox branded Blu-ray Disc player at local Wal-Mart stores for under $300. Sources have now confirmed that Wal-Mart will showcase the Magnavox NB500MG9 for $298 for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, making it the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market.

The film, which stars Kevin Spacey (The Usual Suspects) and Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), is based the real-life story of a young blackjack savant. Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the Paul Newman classic film 'Cool Hand Luke' to Blu-ray on September 9th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. The film, which was nominated for four academy awards, has been recently remastered. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but you can expect the typical VC-1 video and Dolby TrueHD audio from Warner.

Sony Plans Horror Blu-rays for July

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring four horror catalog films to Blu-ray on July 22nd. Already available in Europe, Sony will bring 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' to this side of the pond. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p and accompanied by a 5.1 lossless English soundtrack. Extras include the three featurettes "Genesis of the Story", "Casting the Film", and "Visual Design".

Persepolis Announced for Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they are bringing the Academy Award nominated animated film 'Persepolis' to Blu-ray on June 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film tells the story of a young girl who, after witnessing her countries change during the Iranian Revolution, fights back against the fundamentalist regime that tries to control her actions.

Kino to Begin Releasing Blu-ray this Fall

Kino International, distributor of foreign and indie films in the United States, will begin releasing Blu-ray titles this fall. Sources tell us that the first high definition title they will release will be Wong Kar Wai's 'Fallen Angels'. No technical specs or supplemental features have been announced at this time.

Restored NASA Footage Coming to Blu-ray

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of NASA, the Discovery Channel is restoring video footage of NASA missions to high definition for the first time for their special, 'When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions'. This special will include never before seen footage direct from NASA's video vaults. The Blu-ray release is currently scheduled to be released on July 24th, two weeks after the DVD release.

The Criterion Collection Announces First Blu-ray Titles

In a move that is sure to warm the hearts of film lovers and Blu-ray fans the world over, The Criterion Collection today announced a slate of Blu-ray releases for later this year. Set to debut in October, this selection of film classics and critical favorites will mark Criterion's first efforts in the high definition marketplace. While specifications are a little on the light side, Criterion promises "high definition picture and sound" on all of their releases as well as all of the special features from the standard definition versions. Criterion has also promised to market these Blu-ray titles at a price equivalent to that of their standard definition counterparts.

Pioneer Introduces Two New Players

Pioneer Electronics has announced they will introduce two new BonusView Blu-ray Disc players this summer. The Pioneer BDP-51FD will feature 1080p24 video output and internal decoding of all Blu-ray audio formats (DTS-HD Master Audio decoding will be added via firmware sometime after shipment). For those without an HDMI receiver, you will be happy to know that the player will include 7.1 analog audio outs.

Neil Young to Release Archive on Blu-ray

At a Sun Microsystems conference held today in San Francisco, rock-legend Neil Young announced that he will be releasing his highly anticipated (and continuously delayed) archive project on Blu-ray. The first 10-disc set will chronicle 1963-1972, presumably one disc for each year. In addition to including high definition audio recording of all his songs (including previously unreleased works), the discs will include videos, handwritten manuscripts, and other memorabilia.

Porchlight Brings Animalia to Blu-ray

Porchlight Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the recently acquired Animalia children's television show to Blu-ray on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. The first release, 'Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom' will contain four episodes including "Hello, We Must Be Going", "Goodbye, We Must Be Staying", "Forget-Me-Not", and "The Mist of Time."

Panasonic Announces Pricing for DMP-BD50

Panasonic has revealed that their upcoming BD-Live (Profile v2.0) Blu-ray Disc player, the DMP-BD50, will carry a manufacturers suggested retail price of $699.95 USD. The Panasonic DMP-BD50 will be the first standalone BD-Live Blu-ray player to be released on the market, and joins the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) as yet another option for those looking to experience the complete Blu-ray package.

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns for Blu-ray

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Tyler Perry comedy 'Meet the Browns' to Blu-ray on July 1st, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time. Extras include four featurettes shared with the DVD release, along with three additional featurettes exclusive to the Blu-ray release. The Blu-ray will also include a standard definition digital copy of the film.

Warner Home Entertainment has announced that they are planning to bring the Tom Cruise breakout hit 'Risky Business' to Blu-ray on September 16th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. No word on whether or not Warner will elect to make this one of their "coffee book" Blu-ray releases with accompanying hardcover book. Video will be presented as 1080p VC-1 and be accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Simon Baker and Winona Ryder film 'Sex and Death 101' to Blu-ray on July 1st, day and date with the DVD release. The film come from Daniel Waters, the writer of the cult classic film ‘Heathers'. No technical specs have been announced at this time. Special features include audio commentary and a making-of featurette.

First Look Home Entertainment has announced that they will release the western ‘The Proposition' for Blu-ray on August 19th. The film, which stars Guy Pearce, quickly became an indie cult hit when it was released on DVD in 2006. No technical specs have been announced at this time. While no special features have been announced either, expect to at least see the audio commentary makes its way to this Blu-ray from the DVD release.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Justice League: Season One' to Blu-ray on August 19th. The 26 episodes will be spread across three discs with video be presented using VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby Digital soundtrack. Extras include creator's commentary (for three key episodes), "Inside Justice League" creators' panel discussion, "Storyboards: The Blueprints of Justice", "The Look of the Justice League" character design, "Justice League: The First Mission" never before seen promo, and The Blackhawk Theme music video.

Spiderwick Chronicles Blu-ray Gets Detailed

The hits just keep on coming from Paramount today! The Blu-ray release of 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' will be coming to everyone's favorite high definition format with full 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD audio. Paramount isn't revealing video codec specifications as of yet, but the set will feature a full array of bonus content. The studio plans on including all of the content made available on the 2 disc DVD special edition being released day-and-date with this Blu-ray version on June 24th.
