Panasonic Wins Emmy for AVC Work

Panasonic has announced that the Joint Video Team Standards Committee (JVT), of which they are a member, will be awarded with an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2008 Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for their contribution to the development of the H.264 MPEG-4/AVC High Profile - the video standard which is now used for encoding Blu-ray films by many studios including Sony and Fox.

According to the press release, The Emmy Engineering Award goes to an individual, company, or organization for developments in engineering that are either so extensive an improvement on existing methods, or so innovative in nature, that they materially affect the transmission, recording or reception of television. This is truly an important award, and a great acknowledgment of the work accomplished by the group for Blu-ray.
