Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Frost/Nixon Coming to Blu-ray in April

In an early announcement to retailers, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Academy Award-nominated movie 'Frost/Nixon' to Blu-ray on April 21st, day-and-date with the DVD release. Coming on a BD-50, video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Sin City Specs Revealed

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Sin City: Unrated, Recut & Extended', which is due to hit store shelves on April 21st. For this two-disc set, video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Two More Pixar Films Coming this May

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the two Pixar films 'A Bug's Life' and 'Monster's Inc' to Blu-ray on May 19th. Both titles will be two-discs set, featuring a digital copy of the film on a separate DVD. Technical specs have yet to be announced at this time, though it is expected that both releases will receive 1080p AVC video and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack encodes.

Bedtime Stories Comes to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Adam Sandler family film 'Bedtime Stories' to Blu-ray on April 5th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The set will feature the film and its extras on the first disc, a digital copy on the second disc, and a DVD copy of the film on the third disc. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Philips Adds Blu-ray Players to Line-up

Philips has announced three new Blu-ray Disc players which are being added to their high definition electronics line-up in Europe. The first one out of the gate will be the Philips BDP7300, which is due to hit store shelves in March, is a BD-Live player capable of playing video at 1080p24 and decoding all Blu-ray audio codecs, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It is expected to retail for 300 euros.

Doubt Coming to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Academy Award-nominated film 'Doubt' to Blu-ray on April 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep, the film will be presented in 1.78:1 1080p AVC video accompanied by a lossless/uncompressed soundtrack.

The Grudge Blu-ray Delayed Until May

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that they have delayed the Blu-ray release of 'The Grudge' until May 12th in order to coincide with the direct-to-video sequel 'The Grudge 3' (which presumably will come out on the same day). Rumor: Alien Films Coming to Blu-ray

The folks over at Bloody Disgusting have an interesting bit of information that we thought our viewers might be interested in hearing. According to their sources, Fox is reportedly working on bringing the first three 'Alien' films to Blu-ray. When they are released - reportedly sometime this year - they will include all new special features developed exclusively for Blu-ray.

8 Mile Back on Blu-ray Release Schedule

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the Eminem film '8 Mile' is now back on their Blu-ray release schedule, set to hit store shelves on April 7th. Originally scheduled for release last November, the title was delayed in order to coincide with the release of the new Eminem album 'Relapse'.

New Line Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video has announced the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Fracture', which is due to hit store shelves on June 16th. Coming on a BD-25, video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p VC-1. Audio specs are listed as both DTS and Dolby, so it is unknown if this release will receive a Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Highlander Season One Delayed

Some of you might have noticed that the Blu-ray release date for 'Highlander: Season 1' has come and gone without a release. Well, according to the Legendary Heroes website, the release has been delayed until 2010. According to inside sources, the actual material is in very poor condition, and extras, that were supposed to come from Paramount, have fallen through.

No explanation was given for the delay, though it appears that when the title does hit store shelves (day-and-date with the DVD release) all previously announced special features will be included.

Its hard to think of a better way to describe the man that was Mohandas Gandhi. Through his nonviolent actions, he sought to empower India's lower class, even shedding his wealth to live among them in poverty. Today, the Academy-award winning biographical film 'Gandhi' is released on Blu-ray.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring all six Star Trek films as part of a 'Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection' to Blu-ray on May 12th. This seven-disc set will feature all the films - 'The Motion Picture', 'The Wrath of Khan', 'The Search for Spock', 'The Voyage Home', 'The Final Frontier', and 'The Undiscovered Country' - in 1080p video accompanied by Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtracks.

First Season of Star Trek Blu-ray Bound

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1' to Blu-ray on April 28th. Video will be presented in 1.33:1 1080p accompanied by a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (a departure of the normal Dolby TrueHD soundtrack from the studio) along with the original mono track for purist.

Mitsubishi Announces In-car Blu-ray Player

Mitsubishi Electronics has announced that they hope to have a single-DIN Blu-ray player commercially available by the end of the year. The device - which measures 50x178x180mm - will be able to play BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE discs. The player operates on Linux, and is expected to be paired with the companies existing in-dash navigation system.

The Criterion Collection has announced that they will bring Akira Kurosawa's 'Ran' to Blu-ray on May 12th. Previously released as a two-disc DVD set, this Blu-ray disc is expected to include all the special features on a single disc. Technical specs have yet to be confirmed, but you can expect a 1.85:1 1080p AVC video presentation with some sort of lossless/uncompressed audio track.

The current global economic crisis has hurt the bottom lines of many studios, forcing them to rethink ways to increase profits during times when fewer people are venturing out to the theaters. DVD used to be the go-to solution, but over the past few years profits from DVD sales have plateaued and even begun to drop as the market has become saturated. In fact, one of the few bright points on studios' balance sheets has been Blu-ray, an area where profits are good, and sales continue to increase, but apparently not fast enough.

Sony to Join Games and Movies on Blu-ray

In a time when a musicians' popularity rises and falls more often than the tides, it is somewhat difficult to imagine that a single person could be regarded as "the best", and that people could hold that sentiment over 200 years after his death. I of course speak of the legendary composer/musician Mozart, whose work - which comprises of some 600 pieces - is considered some of the most important and groundbreaking music ever created.
