Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Fox Reveals Three More for April

In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the 'The Wrestler' and 'Notorious' to Blu-ray on April 21st, followed a week later by 'Bride Wars'; all three will be day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs have not been announced at this time, but you can expect 1080p AVC video accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Even though 'The Silence of the Lambs' was the winner of five Academy Awards (including Best Picture) in 1991, its greatest accomplishment has to be the film's ability to teeter at the edge of reality without falling into chasm of science fiction. With so many extremes, it could have very easily lost its impact on audiences with a single misstep, but with masterful performances by both Hopkins and Foster, remains one of the best films of all time.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the 2008 Academy-award winner for Best Picture 'Slumdog Millionaire' to Blu-ray on March 31st, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p AVC accompanied by both English and Hindi DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

Paramount Details More May Blu-ray Titles

Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of '3 Days of the Condor', 'Changing Lanes', 'Enemy at the Gates', and 'The Machinist', which are all due to hit store shelves on May 19th (the other May 19th title 'Paycheck' was detailed a few days ago). Video for all these releases will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

New Sony WiFi Blu-ray Player on the Way

Sony Electronics has announced that they will bring two new Blu-ray Disc players - the BDP-S360 and BDP-S560 - to consumers this May. Both players will support 1080p24 video output, be BD-Live capable, and support decoding and streaming of both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio sound formats.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'My Bloody Valentine 3D', which is due to hit store shelves on May 19th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The disc, which will contain both 3D and 2D versions of the film (along with four pairs of 3D glasses) will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

The Weinstein Company has announced that they will bring 'The Reader' to Blu-ray on April 28th, two weeks after the DVD release. This is the film that recently netted Kate Winslet the Academy Award for Best Actress. Blu-ray Founders Working on One-Stop Blu-ray Licensing

Panasonic, Philips, and Sony are currently working with Blu-ray Disc patent holders in order to create a "one-stop shop" for Blu-ray player and disc licensing. The new company, which would be led by former head of IP at IBM Mr. Gerald Rosenthal, would be based in the United States with satellite offices in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

DEG (Japan) Announces Top Blu-ray Titles of 2008

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) Japan has announced their list of the top Blu-ray titles of 2008. Awards are given for excellence in picture quality, sound quality, and interactivity. Additionally, a "Best in Show" award is given to the title which incorporates all of these qualities. Judges include pominent audio video critics, film and DVD magazine editors, and representatives from hardware manufacturers.

Worldwide Blu-ray Sales On Pace for 100M Units in 2009

In a new report from Futuresource Consulting, the research firm is now saying that the Blu-ray format is currently on pace to sell 100 million units this year worldwide. The majority of those sales would still occur in the US, which is predicted to represent 80% of total disc sales. The second largest buyer is said to be the UK, which represent 40% of Western Europe in Blu-ray units sold.

New Terminator 2 Releases Confirmed (UPDATED)

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will release 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Skynet Edition' to Blu-ray on May 19th. Additionally, Lionsgate will release the 'Limted Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set', a six disc set which will feature the Blu-ray release of the film along with Extreme Edition DVD and Ultimate Edition DVD versions of the film and a digital copy of the film, all packaged in a 14-inch T-800 endoskull replica that plays sound effects from the film as its eyes light up.
