Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

HBO Home Entertainment, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, has officially announced the Blu-ray release of one of its most eagerly awaited titles: Deadwood: The Complete Series, with a street date of November 23. The three seasons that comprise this award-winning Western-themed series will be presented in thirteen discs, with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that the 1992 Michael Mann film The Last of the Mohicans, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, will debut on Blu-ray on October 5, featuring an all-new "director's definitive cut", with a running time of 114 minutes (halfway between the lengths of the theatrical cut and the previous director's cut).

Warner Home Video has announced the New Line film Sex and the City 2 for release on Blu-ray on October 26, in a BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. This sequel to the film adaptation of the successful TV series grossed just $95 million domestically, well short of the $152 million of Sex and the City: The Movie.

Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced The Oxford Murders for Blu-ray release on October 5. This 2008 crime thriller, directed by Spanish filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia, stars Elijah Wood and John Hurt as two mathematicians who work together to solve a puzzling series of murders. It opened last Friday at a grand total of one theater.

The 1999 action/sci-fi/thriller movie Deep Blue Sea will be released on August 31, as a Best Buy exclusive. At the moment there is no information regarding the length of that exclusivity window. This title had appeared in a leaked Warner Home Video Blu-ray release schedule early this year, but nothing had been heard since.

Warner Home Video, in conjunction with DC entertainment has announced the introduction of the DC Showcase, a series of animated shorts featuring characters from the DC Comics vault. On November 9, 2010, WHV will release DC Showcase: Superman/Shazam!: The Return of the Black Adam. An online digital copy will exclusively be offered with the Blu-ray.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky for Blu-ray release on September 28. This biopic about the romance between the French fashion designer and the Russian composer stars Anna Mouglalis as Coco Chanel and Mads Mikkelsen as Igor Stravinsky. It premiered in 2009 at the Cannes Film Festival.

Early retailer information indicates that MGM Home Entertainment will release Robocop Trilogy on Blu-ray on October 5. No information regarding technical specifications or special features is known at the moment, nor has it been disclosed whether the trilogy will reuse the existing (and barebones) Robocop Blu-ray. Recently, MGM reused the controversial release of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly for the three-movie release of The Man with No Name Trilogy so that possibility cannot be ruled out.

As expected, Warner's mythological action/adventure movie Clash of the Titans was easily the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended August 1, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. The direct-to-video animated title Batman: Under the Red Hood was a distant second, while Universal's Repo Men was third.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced the raunchy comedy Get Him to the Greek, a spin-off of 2008's box office hit Forgetting Sarah Marshall, for release on an unrated Blu-ray on September 28. As an additional value, Blu-ray purchasers can instantly stream a bonus film by choosing from one of three classic comedies - Uncle Buck, Dazed & Confused and Life- on Pocket Blu or BD-Live on any Internet-connected Blu-ray player. The offer extends through March 31, 2011. A Digital Copy of the film will also be included.

Official RHPS fan site RockyHorror.com has the scoop on the details of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release on a 35th Anniversary Blu-ray on October 19, with lots of newly-created bonuses. Video will be presented in 1.66:1, sourced from a brand new 4K/2K master, from the original camera negatives. Audio will be in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (the original mono soundtrack will also be included).

Every young boy goes through a phase where, to their mother's dismay, they tie on a bed-sheet cape and run around the house pretending to be their favorite superhero. Every superhero-inspired film released is accompanied by boat-loads of toys that help to enhance that experience further – whether that is Spider-man's web slinger, Hulk's huge mitts, or Batman's utility belt. Kick-Ass, which is out today on Blu-ray, plays off this reality, though admittedly takes it to a much higher level.

Image Entertainment has announced The Twilight Zone: Season 2 for release on Blu-ray on November 16, just two months after the release of Season 1. Like the first season, it will be presented in 1080p 1.33:1 video with mono LPCM sound, and English subtitles. Note that 6 of the 29 episodes were originally shot on videotape instead of film.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for release on Blu-ray on September 14. The latest Jerry Bruckheimer action/adventure production, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will be presented in two editions: a single-disc Blu-ray and a three-disc BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. The latter will exclusively "Sands of Time," a CineExplore feature giving fans control of the Dagger of Time and allowing them to rewind time and uncover behind the scenes magic in over 40 segments.

After Doctor Zhivago, classic film lovers might still get another David Lean classic this year: The Bridge on the River Kwai is now up for preorder. Disney Sells Miramax to Investor Group

Confirming the agreement in principle announced earlier this month, Walt Disney Co. has finalized a deal to sell its Miramax Films unit, including its library, for over $660 million. The buyer is Filmyard Holding, an investor group led by Los Angeles construction magnate Ron Tutor. Filmyard Holding has not yet detailed its plans for the Blu-ray release of Miramax catalog films.
