One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Nirvana: Live at the Paramount Blu-ray

In an early retail announcement, Geffen Records has indicated plans to bring Nirvana: Live at the Paramount to Blu-ray. The only known Nirvana concert shot on film, Live at the Paramount finds the band showcasing such hits as "Lithium," "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and "Negative Creep." The Blu-ray is expected to street as a Best Buy-exclusive on September 27th and then expand its release schedule on December 27th.

City of God Blu-ray

Early reports have indicated that Lionsgate plans to release City of God on Blu-ray. Directors Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener) and Kátia Lund's Academy Award-nominated crime epic takes viewers through Rio de Janeiro's brutal underground, focusing on a young man (Alexandre Rodrigues) who dreams of becoming a photojournalist in order to escape the violence of his community. City of God is expected to street on December 13th.

Crazy, Stupid, Love Blu-ray (Updated)

This November, Warner Home Entertainment will bring Crazy, Stupid, Love to Blu-ray. A romantic comedy from directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (I Love You, Phillip Morris), the film stars Steve Carell (Little Miss Sunshine) as a middle-aged dad who turns to a slick bachelor (Ryan Gosling, Fracture) for guidance after his wife (Julianne Moore, Magnolia) cheats on him. Crazy, Stupid, Love streets on November 1st.

First Trailer for Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Clint Eastwood's upcoming biopic, J. Edgar. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hoover, the controversial founder and longtime director of the F.B.I. Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer and Judi Dench co-star. A theatrical release date of November 11th has been set.

Rooney: Goal Machine Blu-ray

Bombo Sports and Entertainment, in association with Manchester United F.C., will release Rooney: Goal Machine (2011), "the perfect Blu-ray for fans of United's number 10". The release will feature all of Rooney's memorable goals up to and including his hat-trick in the 8-2 victory against Arsenal in August, as well as an audio commentary by the striker, with input by his colleagues and Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Princess of Montpensier Blu-ray

The UK branch of StudioCanal (formerly Optimum Home Entertainment) has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Bertrand Tavernier's The Princess of Montpensier (2010), starring Mélanie Thierry, Lambert Wilson, Gaspard Ulliel, and Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet. Last year, the film was screened and nominated for the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Street date is October 31.

Universal has officially announced the Blu-ray release of their 2011 summer comedy The Change-Up. The David Dobkin film puts a new spin on the body-switch comedy by having a married father with three young kids (played by Jason Bateman) wake up in the body of his single friend Dave (Ryan Reynolds). Red Band Trailer for The Thing (2011)

Universal and IGN have debuted a gory new red band trailer for The Thing. A prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 horror classic, the film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Eric Christian Olsen. The Thing hits theaters on October 14th.

Netflix Rebrands DVD/Blu-ray Mail Service as Qwikster, Adds Video Game Rentals

In a blog post and email to members, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced that the company will spin off their DVD mail service into an entirely separate operation which they've named Qwikster. The change will lead current Netflix members with mail subscriptions to Qwikster.com, and separate the fee from those collected for Netflix streaming. Qwikster members will also have the opportunity to rent PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii games.

Attack the Block Blu-ray (Updated)

This fall, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is planning to release the horror/comedy Attack the Block on Blu-ray. The feature-film debut from Joe Cornish (co-writer of TV's The Adam and Joe Show) focuses on a London street gang that must save their apartment block from a horde of ravenous space aliens. Attack the Block is expected to street on October 25th.

Yamaha Releases Aventage BD-A1010, Full HD 3D, $499

Yamaha have released their new Blu-ray 3D player, the BD-A1010, for $499, available to pre-order now. It features full HD 3D playback with the ability to decode HD audio in the form of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA. The player also has access to a large range of online streaming options including favourites like NetFlix and Blockbuster on Demand.

Magnolia Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray Spanish director Mateo Gil's (writer, Open Your Eyes, Agora) Blackthorn (2011), starring Sam Shepard, Eduardo Noriega, and Stephen Rea. Exact technical spec and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the studio is December 20th.

Hong Kong-based distributors Media Asia will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Peter Chan's (Perhaps Love, The Warlords) Wu Xia a.k.a Dragon (2011), starring Donnie Yen, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Kara Hui, and Jimmy Wang Yu. Earlier this year, the film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival (Out of Competition). Street date is September 23.

Special Screening: The Shining

Just in time for Halloween, the Dryden Theatre in Rochester, New York will host a special screening of The Shining showcasing a rare print of the film with footage little-seen since the first few days of The Shining's 1980 theatrical release. General admission tickets for the event - which screens October 22nd through the 23rd - are $8.

The summer blockbuster, which stars Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler, will be available in a Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo pack with over two hours of special features and audio commentary with Abrams. A release date of November 22nd and a SRP of $39.99 has been set.

Night Train Murders Blu-ray

Early reports have indicated that Blue Underground plans to release Night Train Murders on Blu-ray next January. Marketed as the unofficial sequel to Wes Craven's Last House on the Left, this 1975 horror film focuses on the increasingly brutal assaults inflicted on two teenage girls traveling by train from Germany to Italy. Night Train Murders is expected to street on January 31st, 2012.

The Criterion Collection has posted their full roster of Blu-ray releases for December 2011. Titles include Ernst Lubitsch's Design for Living, Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes, and two films from Seijun Suzuki: Branded to Kill & Tokyo Drifter. Only Lubitsch's pre-Code romantic comedy is new to Criterion; the other titles are receiving Blu-ray upgrades.
