Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Independent British distributors Metrodome Video will release on Blu-ray Amit Gupta's Resistance (2011), starring Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen. Based on Welsh writer Owen Sheers' novel, the film offers an alternative look at WW2 in which the D-Day landings have failed and Germany has invaded Britain. Street date is March 19th.

The UK branch of Studio Canal (formerly Optimum Home Entertainment) has officially announced that it will release a Double Play edition of John Flynn's Rolling Thunder (1977), starring William Devane, Tommy Lee Jones, and Linda Haynes. The release will hit retail shelves on January 30th.

Lionsgate has released the official trailer for The Hunger Games. Directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit), this adaptation of author Suzanne Collins' popular science-fiction novel focuses on the post-apocalyptic remnants of the United States as well as the Hunger Games, an event that pits young adults against one another in a fight to the death. The Hunger Games' U.S. release date is scheduled for March 23rd, 2012.

Unforgiven: 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

Next year, Warner Home Entertainment will bring Unforgiven: 20th Anniversary Edition to Blu-ray. The winner of four Oscars, including Best Picture, actor/director Clint Eastwood's revisionist Western centers on a former outlaw (Eastwood, Gran Torino) returning to his murderous ways when he pursues the bounty set on a corrupt sheriff's (Gene Hackman, Superman: The Movie) hired hands. This 20th Anniversary Edition streets on February 21st, 2012.

Next February, Warner Home Entertainment will release Fort Apache on Blu-ray. Directed by John Ford (The Searchers), this first entry in Ford's unofficial "Cavalry Trilogy" stars John Wayne (Rio Bravo) and Henry Fonda (Once Upon a Time in the West) as two cavalry officers at odds with one another over what they each perceive to be proper treatment of the Apache tribe. Fort Apache streets on February 21st, 2012.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release The Adventures of Milo and Otis on Blu-ray in January. Narrated by Dudley Moore (Arthur), this beloved children's film follows a cat named Milo and a dog named Otis as they trek through the Japanese wilderness. Next year, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will bring Stripes to Blu-ray. The sophomore collaboration between actor Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) and director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) focuses on a slacker (Murray) who enlists in the military as a means of meeting women and finding direction - in that order. Previously available as a Best Buy exclusive, Stripes expands its release schedule on January 24th, 2012.

In an early announcement to retailers, Sony Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Gus Van Sant's Restless (2011), starring Mia Wasikowska, Henry Hopper, and Ryo Kase. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Street date is January 24th.

In an early announcement to retailers, Sony Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn's (Bronson, Valhalla Rising) Drive (2010), starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. Earlier this year, the film, which was distributed theatrically in the U.S. by FilmDistrict Pictures, won Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Street date is January 31.

Independent British distributors Arrow Films have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Korean director Lee Chang-dong's Shi a.k.a Poetry (2010), starring Yun Jung-hee and Lee David. In an early retail announcement, Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed plans to release the following Miramax catalog titles on Blu-ray: The Piano, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Frida, and Cold Mountain. The five highly acclaimed films are all Academy Award winners and are expected to to street on January 31st, 2012.

Diamond Editions of Disney's 1955 Lady and the Tramp are available now for pre-order on Amazon for February 7, 2012. Lady and the Tramp, Disney's first widescreen CinemaScope animated feature, is being released in a 3-disc Combo Pack Diamond Edition, a 2-disc Diamond Edition, and in DVD packaging, while the Diamond Edition of Cinderella (1950) has been announced for the Fall of 2012.

The popular television adaptation of Agatha Christie's mystery novels stars David Suchet (The Bank Job) as beloved Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot. These series sets present the program not just in HD, but in their original UK broadcast order. Poirot: Series 1 and Poirot: Series 2 street on January 31st, 2012.

Specialty label Twilight Time has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Jean Renoir's Swamp Time (1941), starring Walter Brennan, Walter Huston, Anne Baxter, and Dana Andrews. The exact technical specs and supplemental features to be included on this release are unknown at the moment, but the Blu-ray is expected to be available for purchase in February.

In the week ending 11/06/2011, Cars 2 displayed plenty of horsepower as it took the checkered flag in the race for the home video sales championship. Not as beloved nor as successful as other Pixar features, Lightning McQueen and Mater still managed to outsell their nearest competitor by a 5-1 margin in both the Blu-ray and the overall package media sales charts.

Radiohead: The King Of Limbs From The Basement

British rockers Radiohead have announced that they will release on Blu-ray a live performance of The King of Limbs in January. The performance was apparently recorded in Nigel Godrich's basement and features two unreleased songs, The Daily Mail and Staircase. The Blu-ray release will also come with a digital download of the show and a 32-page hardback book of photos from the recording session.

The Brits Love Blu-ray

According to an article published by TheRegister, British consumers have fallen in love with Blu-ray. TheRegister quotes Vincent Marcais, Senior Vice President of International Marketing, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, who has revealed that "Blu-Ray sales rose 49 per cent in Q3 over the previous quarter" and now expects the high-definition format to overtake DVD in 2013.
