French distributors Wild Side Video will release on Blu-ray directors Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi's Poulet aux prunes a.k.a Chicken with Plums (2011), starring Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Maria de Medeiros (Pulp Fiction), Eric Caravaca (The Law of the Weakest), Chiara Mastroianni (Love Songs), Edouard Baer (I Always Wanted to be a Gangster), and Isabella Rossellini. Last year, the film was nominated for Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. Street date is March 7th.
Based on the graphic novel by Iranian-born author Marjane Satrapi, Chicken with Plums marks the second instalment of a trilogy that began with Persepolis. Like that Academy Award–nominated film, Chicken with Plums is co-directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Satrapi herself, whose transition from comics to movies is accompanied by a refreshing and imaginative approach to visual storytelling. The work draws upon innovations that span the entire history of cinema, from the striking shadows of German Expressionism to the punchy colour palette of early Technicolor films.
